How to create an
Audio Podcast

If your computer has a sound
card and speakers, as most do,
but not an embedded
microphone (fewer models come
with them) you will only need to
acquire a microphone or a
headset with a microphone.

Microphones price ranges
greatly; if you're just recording
simple sounds and effects,
buy a cheaper microphone.


Attach your microphone to the
sound in port on the back of your
computer.
It’s usually the pink port and might have
a picture of a microphone next to it.

In case of a headset microphone, remember
to also plug-in the headphones.


Check if your microphone has an ON/OFF button.

Otherwise, refer to the instruction
sheet that came with it.

To create an audio podcast you need a
digital audio recording and editing software.

The most commonly used software
of this kind is Audacity:


It’s a free (GNU General Public License ) audio
editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X,
GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.

With Audacity you can create podcasts
and modify any sound.

Just download it to your desktop.

❷ Publish on a ser ver
Once you have a ﬁle you can publish it to an
web which hosts Podcasts in a RSS format
and give you a URI. You will use this URI to
distribute your Podcast

Once you have completed your new episode, it will
be available to your podcast listeners. Your podcast
website will be automatically updated. Subscribed
users will be able to listen to new episodes.

You must obtain web space to house your podcast
so it is accessible on the internet.

This is usually done via contracting with a free web host
or a web host company and renting out web space.

My suggestion is to use:

When you submit your podcast, you are notifying iTS
that you have a podcast feed that is located in a
particular location (the feed URL).


If your feed is accepted, iTS simply reads your feed
each day and updates the podcast directory with any
new or changed information about your podcast.

Note that iTS does not cache or make a copy of your
feed, nor does it cache or make a copy of your
episode ﬁles.

For podcasts, iTS is acting in a capacity similar to a
web directory.


Now your Audio Podcast
is out and can be heard
anywhere in the world!
