EVIDENCE BASED AYURVEDA WHICH IS SCIENCE BASED

2. SBEBA
 Science Based Evidence Based Ayurveda (SBEBA) is
the conscientious ,explicit , judicious and the most
optimised use of Basic science based guidelines ,
principles and reminders of Ayurveda in making
health care decisions of every individual patient

3. Why do we need SBEBA?
 We have a very expanded and complex knowledge
base in basic science .
 We possess limited amount of time and brain
capacity to recollect the knowledge base and apply
on time .
 Hunting for medicines is worthless and endless ,
especially because Ayurveda is Science Led
Medicine(SLM) and not Medicine Led Science (MLS)

4. Key points in SBEBA
 The practice of SBEBA beginning and proceeding from
Basic science and ending up with clinical evidence.
 One of the greatest achievements of SBEBA has been the
development of Evidence Triad Approach ( published in
Evidence Bsaed Ayurveda & rational prescribing , 2012, Remya Krishnan) to
recognise the accurate “evidence leads” .
 The easiest way to practice SBEBA is to learn to use the
literature base of Ayurveda , comprehend their exact
intentions along with learning of their appraisal techniques

5. Key points
 In Ayurveda , without the indepth involvement of
Basic science , no intended outcome is possible in
research as well as clinical practice. Hence practice
and research must ideally begin from science .
 The inbuilt evidences of “science based research”
must be exploited instead of “ research based
science”.
 Good research is “ science based” and not “research
based.”

6. Key points
 Good evidence is not that which is ‘approved’ by
“probability statistics” , but rather that which is ‘led’
by “certainity based science “.
 Good evidence is static in identical circumstances in
every period where as bad evidence is variable and
uncertain .
 In Ayurveda, science based evidence is exactly “the
evidence that matters to the status”.
 Science based evidence is patient oriented while
statitical evidence is population oriented

7. Key points
 Accurate science led directions to appraise the
patient circumstances would only guide to treat and
heal fast, while the data(statistics) led directions
would only help for drug approval .
 All studies are pointless, irrelevant and harmful,
unless they are accurately led by science .

8. Getting started with SBEBA
 SBEBA teaches learning to ask what is to be
specifically known and why .
 SBEBA teaches learning to appraise samhitha base
and use them relevant to the context.
 Teaches how to work out the “evidence triad” and
ultimately reach the diamond evidence that is most
filtered to focus on the individual patient status .
Evidence Triad technique is useful in all named and
unnamed diseases

9.  By continuous learning and practice, rational
prescribing becomes a habit .
 Regular updating by constant learning and
pondering of key evidence base in samhithas as well
as Modern science and techniques, their accurate
appraisal for the situation and practice .
 Taking samhithas into clinic and constantly ponder
into diagnostic and treatment principles foster the
change

10.  Keep a manual of evidence based guidelines and
ignore the rest .
 Learn to acquire complete knowledge of every
individual patient circumstances by SBEBA
techniques and enjoy practice for reasons other than
money .

11. Old habits die hard
 The shift from current practice of Traditional
medicine to SBEBA is doable, but not easy .
 It requires fostering the attitude of change which
comes purely from dedication to profession and
internal commitment .
 SBEBA cultures the intellect of physician which leads
him to a path of exploration and learning and opens
up an exciting style of practice which is originally
scientific.
