1. DO NOW
Write a new entry in your B322
Production Diary detailing your latest
involvement in your film production.
Points to mention: Any recent filming that has
been accomplished, storyboard development,
scripting development, any other areas of research
and planning, meetings that have been arranged,
practice shoots, skills development, soundtrack
investigation, etc.
2.
3. LEARNING OBJECTIVE
To specify the target
audience of my own product
and research the
stereotypical modes of film
distribution.
4. TASK 1: TARGET AUDIENCE
Create a PowerPoint presentation that explains exactly
who the target demographic (audience) for your film is.
You must specify the following explaining the choices
you have made.
• Mass or Niche
• Social Status
• Gender
• Age
• Location
5. TASK 2: DEFINING AUDIENCE EXPECTATIONS
Define what your audience’s expectations are of the product you are creating
. Audiences will expect certain codes and conventions to be followed in the
film that you create and will sometimes find it interesting if they are broken
(adding new conventions such as mixing horror and comedy: Scary Movie).
In production groups write a series of questions that you could ask a focus
group to define what codes and conventions they would expect to see in a
film of the same genre as your own.
Potential Questions: What character types would you expect? What
locations would expect? What genre of music would expects in the
soundtrack? What storylines would you expect? And so on…
6. HOMEWORK
Conduct a focus group session
using
your questions and record it
digitally.
Due: Wednesday 9th December
7. TASK 3: FILM DISTRIBUTION
With reference to your target audience research specify
whether your film would be distributed by a mainstream
distribution company or an independent one.
You must also explain the reasons for your choices and
suggest at least four companies that you may choose to
distribute your film.
Film Distribution is the link between Film
Production and Film Exhibition. The Distribution
process markets the film and organises the kind of
release the film has.
8. TASK 3: FILM DISTRIBUTION Q&A
You have exactly 10
minutes to answer every
question on the
worksheet.
Research using the
internet and remember
to use reliable sources!
