Educational tour provide an opportunity for total entanglement in the natural environment
and social locale. Educational tours are familiar as imperative moments in learning; a shared
social experience that provides the opportunity for students to come across and explore novel
things in an authentic setting. On such excursions, the student practices his social skills and
critical thinking abilities outside of the controlled classroom. Also it expose students to new
experiences and can increase interest and engagement in science regardless of prior interest in
a topic. Result in effective gains such as more positive feelings toward a topic and this
experiences can be recalled and useful long after a visit. Field trips are great for team
building. It brings a greater group of students together, so they can create a more meaningful
bond. An excellent and knowledgeable tour was arranged by the International Office,
Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS), Beijing, China
for the international students of 2017 Autumn Semester on 30 October 2017 at National
Agricultural Science & Technology Demonstration Park, CAAS. This demonstration park is
under the Institute of Environmental and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA),
Co-Hosted IVF (Institute of Vegetables and Flowers).
Special Features:
The demonstration Park indeed a Plant Factory and Urban Horticulture for research and
commercial orientated. Beijing IEDA Protected Horticulture Co., Ltd. has co-operated and
designed the high tech agricultural park. National Agricultural Science & Technology
Demonstration Park of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was approved
by the Ministry of Agriculture in China in 2009 and opened in October 2011, with an aim of

The brief description of my study visit is as follows:
Preface Pavilion
In this pavilion a demo of this park is demonstrated and different functions and features about
this park are written here under different headings. It is really a nice pavilion as because
someone get a through idea about the demonstration park. Also here is written some
important information about the demonstration park like covering area over forty thousand
square meter. This pavilion represent a review of the of the whole demonstration park.
Urban Agriculture
Urban agriculture is the practice of cultivating processing and
distributing food in or around a village, town or city. Urban
agriculture can also involve animal husbandry, aquaculture,
agroforestry, urban beekeeping and horticulture. The contribution
of urban agriculture to food security and healthy nutrition is
probably its most important asset. It also may improve both food
intake and the quality of the food. Urban agriculture to a large
extent complements rural agriculture and increases the efficiency
of the national food system in that it provides products that rural
agriculture cannot supply easily (e.g. perishable products, products that require rapid delivery
upon harvest), that can substitute for food imports and can release rural lands for export
production of commodities. Beijing IEDA Protected Horticulture Co., Ltd. is one of the
premier company in this field and has taken more than 100 project around the world. In this
field, they provide project planning, design, construction and technological advisory support
for the agricultural technology parks and related enterprises.
Artificial Light Plant Factory
Light is a vital environmental factor that
affects plant growth and development by
acting on plants not only as the sole energy
source of photosynthesis, but also as the
kind of external signal. Light requirements
of plants are subjected to species, cultivar,
growth and developmental stages of plant,
environmental conditions and manipulation target of yield & quality. This artificial light plant
factory is one type of closed plant production system (CPPS) consisting of a thermally
insulated and airtight structure, a multi-tier system with lighting devices, air conditioners and
fans, a CO2 supply unit, a nutrient solution supply unit, and an environment control unit. It
has many environmental controlling technology and online monitoring system for supplying
nutrient solution and indeed a technology for saving light. The factory is controlled and
monitored by the computers. When crops are grown in the open field, their quality and
productivity tend to vary with the local climate, weather conditions and soil fertility. On the
3
other hand, when plants are grown on the controlled environment their quality and
productivity are generally improved. The plant factory system can provide safe and secure
production of crops in a cleanly room without pesticide.
Artificial Light Seedling Culture Factory
Artificial light seedling culture factory is an occlusive system, it consists of 13 key systems
such as environment control, nutrient solution online monitoring and light saving technology.
Through the two ways transmission of moisture temperature system, as the CO2 increasing
system and light controlling system, the plant factory has controlled and monitored on timely
by automatic control units base on checking the EC, pH and temperature of nutrient solution,
so it is ideal for vegetables growth and harvest. In this system seedling culture production
ratio is high per square meter and growing period is short due to perfect and accurate
photosynthetic activity.
Vegetable Factory
Generally, the improvement of yield and nutritional quality of vegetables in protected
facilities is the final target of light environment regulation. Three dimensional cultivation
system used in greenhouses is the new technology of IEDA. The entire system are
computerized and provided CO2, humidity and nutrient solutions accurately, also provided
suitable temperature to the vegetables in different seasons. Production outputs are increased
more than 5 to 10 times than the traditional system because of high throughput technology.
Vertical Farming or Vegetable Factory can solve global resource shortage. It can increase
production per square meter, growth rates as well as nutritional value. It can takes out many
of the risks inherent in outdoor crop production. By controlling light exposure, temperature,
humidity and watering levels, you can grow food very efficiently. Vegetable factory has the
potential to produce food with less energy, less water, less waste and in less space than
traditional methods. Because agriculture has such a significant impact on the environment. It
could eliminate land conversion and habitat loss, wasteful water consumption and soil
erosion and degradation, just to name a few.
4
Solar Green House
Various heating systems are used to meet the heating requirements of the greenhouses.
Thermal storage plays a vital role in solar devices particularly in greenhouses to improve its
performance because of the intermittent nature of solar energy. One of the premier
technologies of IEDAs is the solar green house. This greenhouse can solve many problems
and do act like normal green house. We can get low production benefits, difficult resource
management, rough structure and severe insect infestation through this green house. The New
Emergency Assembled Solar Green House can save energy, enhance efficiency, raise the ratio
of production.
Greenhouse Park
Traditional parks are the landscape on natural environment. However, Greenhouse Park
combines the modern agricultural technology and greenhouse engineering technology with
park landscape art perfectly. This type of Park can provide the environment where people can
enjoy the outdoor activities, sunshine and fresh air.
Vegetable Plants
This is actually a wonderful technology where a single
plant using scientific advantages to significantly improve
productivity. A plenty of vegetables are being cultivated,
melon and fruit trees including tomato tree, cucumber,
colorful chilli tree, egg plants tree, watermelon tree, hot
pepper tree and so on.
Three-Dimensional Hydroponics Cultivation Technology
Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture, which is the
growing of plants in a soil less medium, or an aquatic
based environment. Hydroponic growing uses mineral
nutrient solutions to feed the plants in water, without
soil. For those of us who love growing plants these
are exciting times indeed. It is no longer limited by
climate or by season in the pursuit of our harmless
pleasures. We can now grow virtually any plant at
virtually any time of the year – the only limitation is
our imagination. The simple, effective hydroponic
systems now available, coupled with modern
horticultural lighting, have transformed our hobby and freed us to grow our favorite plants
where and when we choose. In National Technology Demonstration Park, we observed
hydroponics agricultural modes including: Inclined Inserted Column Hydroponics System,
Inclined Inserted Wallboard Hydroponics System, Mobile Gully Hydroponics System,
5
Multifunction Technology Hydroponics System, Three Dimensional Cultivation System of
Narrow Leaf Vegetables.
The shelving system means 10 times more plants can be grown in the plant factory than in a
traditional outdoor plot covering the same area. Along with a shorter growth period, the
plant factory's crop output can be anywhere from dozens to hundreds of times greater than
that of a conventional farm. That's extremely useful to China, a country short of arable land.
Sweet Potato Plant
“Sweet potato plant” is one of the most advanced and
fabulous technology that has been invented by IEDA not
only solves the sweet potato continuous collection but also
prolong the growth time of single potato. Normally, in
traditional cultivation methods, sweet potatoes grown in
the soil are harvested and the plant dies after its roots are
dug up. So the technology is to grow the absorbing root
and nutritious media in hydroponics environment and the
store root in soil environment in order to separate the functions of sweet potato root system.
Here the roots are put in a nutrient solution while allowing some parts of the stems to swell
into tubers. So the sweet potatoes can hang on vines like fruit. This technology can increase
output while saving land, and it enables consecutive cultivation. The quality of the sweet
potato is also improved.
Grafting Technique
Tomatoes and potatoes can grow on the same vine, because a grafting technique is used.
Many different plants can be grafted. They also grafted wax gourd with watermelon,
pumpkin with cucumber, and so on. The grafting technique has been widely used among
Chinese farmers to increase the efficiency of land utilization and output per unit.
Eco Conference Room and Eco library
No one can deny the importance of conference
room. A well-equipped and impressive conference
room can result in attracting the participants and
helps to concentrate the topics oriented discussion.
Especially when the room is decorated with
different greenery shade loving plants and
attractive vines, it may escalation the
exquisiteness of the conference room as well as
increases the aesthetic beauty of the room. This
park consist of a very attractive eco- friendly conference room where a small conference or
6
meeting can be arranged. Beside this an eco-library is also there. In the eco library different
plant related books, journals, periodicals etc. are arranged in the shelves and obviously the
room is decorated by different plants and ornamentals.
Urban Horticulture Hall
IEDA engages in various green garden designs i.e. hanging garden,
hydroponic garden, creative indoor garden for the purposes of satisfy
the customer’s high quality and living demand. We have also
introduced with advanced international design ideas, as following the
principle of "Combating culture, nature and art together", mixing the
art with nature smoothly, and landscaping living environment.
Agricultural production in China is still mainly based on family units that cannot achieve
large-scale operation, and these families cannot afford to build high-quality, modern
agricultural facilities. The advanced technologies showcased in the demonstration park are
fascinating. Experts related to this works believe that the high-tech agriculture shown in the
demonstration park will be popularized in China in about five to ten years.
Indeed, this visit was very important for all of the international students. By this visit we
have acquired knowledge about most modern innovative horticultural ideas which will be
very helpful for meeting the huge demand of green, fresh vegetables in near future.

Result in effective gains such as more positive feelings toward a topic and this experiences can be recalled and useful long after a visit. Field trips are great for team building. It brings a greater group of students together, so they can create a more meaningful bond. An excellent and knowledgeable tour was arranged by the International Office, Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS), Beijing, China for the international students of 2017 Autumn Semester on 30 October 2017 at National Agricultural Science & Technology Demonstration Park, CAAS. This demonstration park is under the Institute of Environmental and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA), Co-Hosted IVF (Institute of Vegetables and Flowers). Special Features: The demonstration Park indeed a Plant Factory and Urban Horticulture for research and commercial orientated. Beijing IEDA Protected Horticulture Co., Ltd. has co-operated and designed the high tech agricultural park. National Agricultural Science & Technology Demonstration Park of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture in China in 2009 and opened in October 2011, with an aim of popularizing agricultural science and technology and modern agricultural concepts. The total area is about the 42,000-square-meters. This Agricultural Science & Technology Demonstration Park is divided into 9 functional zonings: Natural School Mushroom Vegetable Factory Fruit Vegetable Factory Standard Fruit Vegetable Factory Green Innovations Leafy Vegetable Factory Natural Plant Factory Urban Horticulture Preface Pavilion Functional Zones
  • 3. 2 The brief description of my study visit is as follows: Preface Pavilion In this pavilion a demo of this park is demonstrated and different functions and features about this park are written here under different headings. It is really a nice pavilion as because someone get a through idea about the demonstration park. Also here is written some important information about the demonstration park like covering area over forty thousand square meter. This pavilion represent a review of the of the whole demonstration park. Urban Agriculture Urban agriculture is the practice of cultivating processing and distributing food in or around a village, town or city. Urban agriculture can also involve animal husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, urban beekeeping and horticulture. The contribution of urban agriculture to food security and healthy nutrition is probably its most important asset. It also may improve both food intake and the quality of the food. Urban agriculture to a large extent complements rural agriculture and increases the efficiency of the national food system in that it provides products that rural agriculture cannot supply easily (e.g. perishable products, products that require rapid delivery upon harvest), that can substitute for food imports and can release rural lands for export production of commodities. Beijing IEDA Protected Horticulture Co., Ltd. is one of the premier company in this field and has taken more than 100 project around the world. In this field, they provide project planning, design, construction and technological advisory support for the agricultural technology parks and related enterprises. Artificial Light Plant Factory Light is a vital environmental factor that affects plant growth and development by acting on plants not only as the sole energy source of photosynthesis, but also as the kind of external signal. Light requirements of plants are subjected to species, cultivar, growth and developmental stages of plant, environmental conditions and manipulation target of yield & quality. This artificial light plant factory is one type of closed plant production system (CPPS) consisting of a thermally insulated and airtight structure, a multi-tier system with lighting devices, air conditioners and fans, a CO2 supply unit, a nutrient solution supply unit, and an environment control unit. It has many environmental controlling technology and online monitoring system for supplying nutrient solution and indeed a technology for saving light. The factory is controlled and monitored by the computers. When crops are grown in the open field, their quality and productivity tend to vary with the local climate, weather conditions and soil fertility. On the
  • 4. 3 other hand, when plants are grown on the controlled environment their quality and productivity are generally improved. The plant factory system can provide safe and secure production of crops in a cleanly room without pesticide. Artificial Light Seedling Culture Factory Artificial light seedling culture factory is an occlusive system, it consists of 13 key systems such as environment control, nutrient solution online monitoring and light saving technology. Through the two ways transmission of moisture temperature system, as the CO2 increasing system and light controlling system, the plant factory has controlled and monitored on timely by automatic control units base on checking the EC, pH and temperature of nutrient solution, so it is ideal for vegetables growth and harvest. In this system seedling culture production ratio is high per square meter and growing period is short due to perfect and accurate photosynthetic activity. Vegetable Factory Generally, the improvement of yield and nutritional quality of vegetables in protected facilities is the final target of light environment regulation. Three dimensional cultivation system used in greenhouses is the new technology of IEDA. The entire system are computerized and provided CO2, humidity and nutrient solutions accurately, also provided suitable temperature to the vegetables in different seasons. Production outputs are increased more than 5 to 10 times than the traditional system because of high throughput technology. Vertical Farming or Vegetable Factory can solve global resource shortage. It can increase production per square meter, growth rates as well as nutritional value. It can takes out many of the risks inherent in outdoor crop production. By controlling light exposure, temperature, humidity and watering levels, you can grow food very efficiently. Vegetable factory has the potential to produce food with less energy, less water, less waste and in less space than traditional methods. Because agriculture has such a significant impact on the environment. It could eliminate land conversion and habitat loss, wasteful water consumption and soil erosion and degradation, just to name a few.
  • 5. 4 Solar Green House Various heating systems are used to meet the heating requirements of the greenhouses. Thermal storage plays a vital role in solar devices particularly in greenhouses to improve its performance because of the intermittent nature of solar energy. One of the premier technologies of IEDAs is the solar green house. This greenhouse can solve many problems and do act like normal green house. We can get low production benefits, difficult resource management, rough structure and severe insect infestation through this green house. The New Emergency Assembled Solar Green House can save energy, enhance efficiency, raise the ratio of production. Greenhouse Park Traditional parks are the landscape on natural environment. However, Greenhouse Park combines the modern agricultural technology and greenhouse engineering technology with park landscape art perfectly. This type of Park can provide the environment where people can enjoy the outdoor activities, sunshine and fresh air. Vegetable Plants This is actually a wonderful technology where a single plant using scientific advantages to significantly improve productivity. A plenty of vegetables are being cultivated, melon and fruit trees including tomato tree, cucumber, colorful chilli tree, egg plants tree, watermelon tree, hot pepper tree and so on. Three-Dimensional Hydroponics Cultivation Technology Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture, which is the growing of plants in a soil less medium, or an aquatic based environment. Hydroponic growing uses mineral nutrient solutions to feed the plants in water, without soil. For those of us who love growing plants these are exciting times indeed. It is no longer limited by climate or by season in the pursuit of our harmless pleasures. We can now grow virtually any plant at virtually any time of the year – the only limitation is our imagination. The simple, effective hydroponic systems now available, coupled with modern horticultural lighting, have transformed our hobby and freed us to grow our favorite plants where and when we choose. In National Technology Demonstration Park, we observed hydroponics agricultural modes including: Inclined Inserted Column Hydroponics System, Inclined Inserted Wallboard Hydroponics System, Mobile Gully Hydroponics System,
  • 6. 5 Multifunction Technology Hydroponics System, Three Dimensional Cultivation System of Narrow Leaf Vegetables. The shelving system means 10 times more plants can be grown in the plant factory than in a traditional outdoor plot covering the same area. Along with a shorter growth period, the plant factory's crop output can be anywhere from dozens to hundreds of times greater than that of a conventional farm. That's extremely useful to China, a country short of arable land. Sweet Potato Plant “Sweet potato plant” is one of the most advanced and fabulous technology that has been invented by IEDA not only solves the sweet potato continuous collection but also prolong the growth time of single potato. Normally, in traditional cultivation methods, sweet potatoes grown in the soil are harvested and the plant dies after its roots are dug up. So the technology is to grow the absorbing root and nutritious media in hydroponics environment and the store root in soil environment in order to separate the functions of sweet potato root system. Here the roots are put in a nutrient solution while allowing some parts of the stems to swell into tubers. So the sweet potatoes can hang on vines like fruit. This technology can increase output while saving land, and it enables consecutive cultivation. The quality of the sweet potato is also improved. Grafting Technique Tomatoes and potatoes can grow on the same vine, because a grafting technique is used. Many different plants can be grafted. They also grafted wax gourd with watermelon, pumpkin with cucumber, and so on. The grafting technique has been widely used among Chinese farmers to increase the efficiency of land utilization and output per unit. Eco Conference Room and Eco library No one can deny the importance of conference room. A well-equipped and impressive conference room can result in attracting the participants and helps to concentrate the topics oriented discussion. Especially when the room is decorated with different greenery shade loving plants and attractive vines, it may escalation the exquisiteness of the conference room as well as increases the aesthetic beauty of the room. This park consist of a very attractive eco- friendly conference room where a small conference or
  • 7. 6 meeting can be arranged. Beside this an eco-library is also there. In the eco library different plant related books, journals, periodicals etc. are arranged in the shelves and obviously the room is decorated by different plants and ornamentals. Urban Horticulture Hall IEDA engages in various green garden designs i.e. hanging garden, hydroponic garden, creative indoor garden for the purposes of satisfy the customer’s high quality and living demand. We have also introduced with advanced international design ideas, as following the principle of "Combating culture, nature and art together", mixing the art with nature smoothly, and landscaping living environment. Agricultural production in China is still mainly based on family units that cannot achieve large-scale operation, and these families cannot afford to build high-quality, modern agricultural facilities. The advanced technologies showcased in the demonstration park are fascinating. Experts related to this works believe that the high-tech agriculture shown in the demonstration park will be popularized in China in about five to ten years. Indeed, this visit was very important for all of the international students. By this visit we have acquired knowledge about most modern innovative horticultural ideas which will be very helpful for meeting the huge demand of green, fresh vegetables in near future.
