For years growing up, I always counted on getting my driver's license the day I turned sixteen. I
never really put much thought into the awareness and heed that is required while behind the
wheel. I was an immature girl, not thinking about what consequences my actions could hold. My
adolescent views of the world were about to land me in a world of hurt. It was a morning similar
to any other. I had been seventeen for a full twelve hours. It was now time for me to head to work
and earn the wages of a teenage employee. The entirety of my previous summer consisted of nothing
but helping my father rebuild a 1976 Ford Bronco. The Jade–Green beauty was my new favorite
thing. I had completed the majority of my commute and was one more left turn away from
reaching my destination. I saw that my arrow was orange and, hardly even glancing at the traffic

Aggressive drivers like to aggravate other motorist by tailing, honking, or even bumping the car in
front of them. They just can&#8217;t seem to wait a few extra seconds to go when the car in
front is trying to turn. Those hot shot drivers just floor the gas and go around them and sometimes
drive on the opposite land to get around the other driver. The most gutsy driver I have every
encountered was on highway I–90. Here two drivers in old beater cars were playing demolition
derby with the cars. They were smashing, bumping, and pushing the other car for the fun. Those just

The next type of driver would best be called the ideal driver on the roads. The ideal driver would
yield for pedestrians; make full and complete stops at lights, and would obey all traffic signs and

Today a lot of people have bad driving habits. There is no need to go far to detect individuals
driving with poor driving skills and dangerous techniques. Too many men and women have bad
driving habits, and they can be seen almost anywhere, especially on highways. There are lot a
different dangerous habits that affect people every day's lives in different ways.
Driving in general can be hazardous. Driving and having such a distraction as a cell phone at ear,
or ringing somewhere in a car, is ten times more dangerous. Not surprisingly, drivers who use a cell
phone while driving perceive cell phone use by others as less of a threat to their safety as do
non–users. A huge number of accidents caused by talking on a cell phone. During the last 5 years
texting has become insanely popular. It's a great and convenient tool because people don't have to call
person to just say 'ok' on that dinner invitation. The worst part is that many people still think that
texting while driving just that 'ok' is ok. Unfortunately, even with traffic police enforcing those 'no
cellphone' laws, individuals still neglect those simple safety concerns. People need to start
understanding themselves how dangerous it is.
Few years ago I was in Florida. My friend and I were driving back from a little town on the

While I was sitting in that hospital bed, it made me think about a lot of things. From how lucky I
was, to how bad I felt about wrecking into those kids. I was taken back to do some testing, to see
if anything was internally wrong with me. Awaiting my results, as I was sitting in that hospital
bed, there was a knock on the door. A man, standing 5'9" tall and wearing BDU pants. He worked
at Mayes County Jail, his name is Dereck Davis and he is my boyfriend. The moment he walked
through that hospital room door, my eyes lit up and I realized that as cliche as it sounds, he was
the one for me. He is my soulmate. He's the person I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with;
He's my other half. After he left the hospital, knowing that I was okay, my mother told me that

Feeling the mental and financial sting of having to buy a whole new car really puts things into
perspective, but hinders them on the road.
Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man or
woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving in
and out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur when
a competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver.
Stereotypically this driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no
set age or sex. They get so angry for the smallest of reasons that they don't really care what they do
as a result, so long as they go out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and
have no qualms about risking their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely
apply the brake when coming to a stop, more like "tap tap and go". My uncle Jim is a prime
example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82, he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the
streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions to those around him. Try telling him to ease

Observing my father who has been driving for 30 year and my little brother who has had his permit
for 5 months I have noticed my father has many more bad driving habits. My father will not signal
while switching lanes, drink coffee while driving or even talk on the cell phone in heavy traffic.

Did you ever hear anyone admit to being a bad driver? Probably not, because everybody thinks
they're a good driver. They also think that everybody else is a menace on the road. If we perfect
drivers ride with another driver, we can usually find fault with their performance. Believe it or not,
if they ride with us, they can return the favor. How can we tell a good driver from a bad one? The
number of traffic accidents they have had would be an obvious indicator, but not necessarily the only
one. There are drivers who have habits that cause others to have accidents.
For instance, imagine you are following two slow cars, and when the way is clear, you signal
and pull out to overtake them. As you come along side the first one, he begins to pull out to
overtake the car in front of him, not seeing you because you are in his "blind spot". You might
have a crash which he causes, and he goes on his merry way. Many people drive with a blind spot
on either side of their cars, roughly alongside the rear fenders. It's simply a bad habit on their part, of
not adjusting the mirrors.
