My name is Robert Stringer. I was born on July 4th, 1951 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to middle class American parents, Joseph and Maria Stringer. I have 3 brothers and two sisters, making our family a total of 8. My father owned a working cattle ranch and my mother stayed at home and took care of the family. We grew our food, raised cattle, pigs and chickens for our meat and were part of a very independent nation. Growing up in the country gave me the opportunity to become the man I am today.

1. Robert Stringer On His Wonderful Story
My name is Robert Stringer. I was born on July 4th, 1951 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to middle class
American parents, Joseph and Maria Stringer. I have 3 brothers and two sisters, making our family a
total of 8. My father owned a working cattle ranch and my mother stayed at home and took care of the
family. We grew our food, raised cattle, pigs and chickens for our meat and were part of a very
independent nation. Growing up in the country gave me the opportunity to become the man I am
today.
I went to elementary, middle and high school in Scottsbluff and stayed there until I enlisted in the Air
Force in 1969. I married my high school sweetheart, Sarah McCarthy in 1970. We settled in Las Vegas,
Nevada as I was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. Sarah and I had 4 children, 2 boys, Matthew and
Joshua and 2 girls Amanda and Caitlin.
During my 35 year career in the Air Force, I was trained in weaponry and combat air training and worked
in Strategic Intelligence. Both Sarah and I continued our education while I was in the military. Sarah got
a degree in Computer programming and opened consulting company which was very successful.
Computer consulting allowed her to work from home and since we never knew when or where we
would be relocated with the military; her career was a good fit for our lifestyle.
It was during our time in the military that Sarah and I grew to love travelling and meeting new people.
We were stationed both in and out of the United States from time to time but our home base was
always Las Vegas. When you are stationed outside of the United States, it always makes you thankful to
be able to come back to our American roots as there is no other nation to live but in our own United
States of America.
Sometime during our busy life we raised our children to have good values and be upstanding members
of the community. As they grew and moved on with their lives, they scattered throughout the United
States. It was after Caitlin moved to Hawaii with her husband and 2 children that Sarah decided that it
was time to start putting together the Family Tree.
While I was forging a career in the Military, Sarah owed a computer consulting company. Our plan was
to buy an RV and after retirement from the Military, we would travel everywhere in the United States to
visit our large extended family.
While in the Military, I developed a keen interest in computers and when the dot.com era hit, I made
substantial money in the stock market and cashed out with a couple million dollars before the market
crashed. I was very lucky in that aspect as it allowed me to pursue my retirement dreams with Sarah.
I retired from the service in 2005 and for the first few years, we did our traveling by plane, train or
automobile. Our daughter Amanda took over Sarah’s consulting business and we set our path to the
future. We started looking for the ideal RV to put our retirement plans into effect. We bought our RV in
October of 2007. We bought a puppy that we named Koko to travel with us and we set off to find an

2. adventure. We traveled to many different parts of the United States visiting with our kids and other
family members as well.
It was during a trip to California in 2009 that Sarah first started feeling ill. At first she just thought she
was tired, but as time went on, we consulted a Dr and found that Sarah had Cancer. Since Cancer is
such a depilating disease and requires chemotherapy and long months of care, we put our plans on hold
until we found out if she could beat the disease. Unfortunately, my Sarah passed away in 2010 after 40
years of marriage. We had a wonderful life and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Before Sarah got so sick, she wrote me a letter to be opened after she had passed. I couldn’t believe her
generosity and compassion during such a tumultuous time. Sarah said that after all of the time we had
spent together, she didn’t want me to stop living. She wanted me to go on and find a new life after she
was gone. She asked me not to grieve too long for she would always be with me in our memories and
she said she expected me to get into the RV and make our plans come to life for the both of us.
After a time, I came to realize that it was now my responsibility to finish the research for our Family tree
so I could leave Sarah’s legacy for our children and their children throughout the generations.
