1. Hello and Welcome to BTV, Brown Television. I'm Roman Gonzalez, Station Manager. It’s been a thrilling, difficult, sitcom-ish road to get to this point, but we’re glad to have you with us. Over the last few years we’ve been working to bring BTV back to life. And here we are. You're watching BTV live.
BTV was started in 1987 by Doug Liman, who we now know to be the producer of the Bourne Identity Trilogy, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, and Jumper. He created a mega-organization on campus, a group akin to the Brown Daily Herald or WBRU. History happened, and it fell further and further until the last BTV stride in around 2005. Since then, with the hard work and generosity of many, we've built it back up, with near 30 staff members, several departments, and a new website, browntv.org, which you should keep a lookout for in the next week.
But the new BrownTV is a service. So what can you do?
There are a few things you can do with us:
1) You can submit your work
2) You can create a show, a series.
3) You can use our resources to complete your project (a studio, a high definition camera, a shotgun microphone and more)
4) You can record an event with our resources or have us record your poetry reading, musical performance, or guest lecture.
5) You can work for BTV.
The idea is that although we’ve made it back on the air, we want you to help us bring BTV back to the point where it once was. To give you an idea of what BTV could be, we’re going to play old student programming throughout the next few weeks. We have a whole range of student and campus productions to show you – sitcoms, talent shows, short films, comedies, talk shows, and shows we’re not quite sure what to call.
We’re excited to give you a glimpse of BTV’s potential and to invite you to join us as we resurrect BTV’s rich legacy of creative student programming. If you have an idea for a show of your own or are just interested in helping out let us know. You can visit Browntv.org for more information. Coming up next, is, to our humor, a pretty hilarious show called “Welcome to Thayer Street.” If it reminds you of Sesame Street, don’t worry. Think of it like Sesame Street had a twisted cousin that got into Brown. Remember to visit browntv.org for updates and email browntelevision@gmail.com with any questions.
Enjoy your programming, I want to thank every member of the BTV staff, and behalf of all of them, it's good to be back. Have a great night.
