6. we’ll need a responsive HTML5 website
the first thing we need is a responsive HTML5 website that can be edited/changed as we test and learn. WordPress
is a very fast and easy way of getting a professional looking responsive website up and running quickly and cheaply.
The WordPress CMS (Content Management System) makes it easy to create and manage content – which will be
very very important to us
responsive is another way of saying that it works well on a mobile phone. A responsive website will mean you only
need to change things in one place for both web and mobile users. A lot of b2c web sites have > 50% mobile usage
now but it is still generally < 50% b2b..
make any domain name/URL changes (or migrations to SSL https://) now before we start growth hacking. We will
want to start to collect links back to our site from now onwards so it is much better if they don’t change…
you should migrate to SSL (https://) if you can. It is faster, more secure for your customers and is looked upon
favourably by Google for search engine ranking...another thing that will really help rank for your primary search term
is to have it in your domain name such as interim being in https://interim.team...

2) setup and tools to test and learn at the MOF and
BOF (interact and convert) we’ll
need a site that is quick and easy
to change...
having a site that is fast, works well on a mobile phone and uses SSL encryption
are all things that are thought to help sites get ranked higher by Google...

we’ll need a cross functional team
to be effective a growth hacking team needs representation from any and all people or teams with a stake in
growth. These might include Technology, Marketing, Sales, Digital/Ecommerce, Finance, Legal,
Operations...representation doesn’t necessarily take a huge time commitment...stakeholders will need to
attend the daily standup and end of sprint retrospective though...more on that in 4) growth sprints...
7. the tools we need
free tools
we will need a way of regularly publishing and managing blog content. WordPress is the best blogging platform
available.
www.pixlr.com is a great free image editing tool.
the google tools
we need a Google account so we can use the Google suite of free tools such as Google Search Console, Google
Analytics, Google Adwords, Google PageSpeed Insights…
we need Google Analytics installed on your web site (some people will say GA aggregates data too much but it’s
free and we can work around its limitations)
the Google KeyWord planner tool (part of AdWords) is a great place to see what people are searching for (and
how competitive those words are in AdWords)
other non free tools
we will need a way of managing, sending and tracking professional looking emails. Tools like MailChimp are easy
to use and effective and can be integrated with tools that capture email addresses from site visitors
tools like Hotjar allow us much richer information on how people are using our web site. We’ll need this as we test
and learn MOF and BOF. This can also be done with SumoMe
Guest Post Tracker allows us to submit and manage applications to place guest posts on other high traffic or high
authority web sites 7
Try not to let your blog “sprawl”
too much although some content
is better than no content at this
stage....
It is difficult to get a blog off the ground from a standing start so
although it will become your primary tool in the future another way
forward is to create an academy or some other way to showcase
your USP. Jonathan Kim did this to great effect with APPCUES’s
onboarding academy...
