Entropy City
1. ENTROPYCITY Entropy City “ An architecture today…should be able to challenge deeply ingrained patterns of thought…In recent years the very notion of progress and the ambition to project a future has itself come to be regarded as monstrous.” Patrik Schumacher writer and theorist at Zaha Hadid Architects, UK Guangzhou Opera House Zaha Hadid Architects
2. ENTROPYCITY Participants learn how to build a virtual 3D city that considers climate change, carbon emissions, and future sustainable living. They use the application Google SketchUp and then share their constructions on Google Earth and Google 3D Warehouse. A 3D virtual Liverpool will be created by participants and available for public use through Google Earth and the Google 3D Warehouse and then presented at Weatherhead and FACT in a multimedia Google Earth based visual presentation. Guangzhou Opera House Zaha Hadid Architects
3. ENTROPYCITY Google SketchUp is a free application that creates 3D models of objects, buildings and even people. It is a simple intuitive programme that almost anyone can use and within minutes of playing you can be building skyscrapers and houses. Google Earth is a free programme to view 3D maps of the globe; they can be linked to GPS & Tom Tom, show images, find hotels, give economic and social data; even soundrecordings of places! It can also be perfectly integrated with 3D Sketchup models. Entropycity will become a large interactive map or layer in Google Earth people around the world will be able to access
4. ENTROPYCITY Target Participants Year 8 pupils and above with some areas adaptable for younger groups: Some “POWEROFF” activity; model building in card and lego for access to younger groups. Art Gallery Project Google Sketchup User nnmprv

7. ENTROPYCITY Legacy Google SketchUp is becoming an indispensable tool in education worldwide in ICT, geography, art, chemistry and beyond. This project will be a way in to the world of SketchUp and the growing community of users who share Sketch’d up objects and resources. It will also introduce teachers and students to using the new generation of Applications and use of the web (known broadly as Web2.0) There is great scope for its use beyond this project. It’s a way of experiencing the collaborative aspect of the internet and a way of making participants dream the future while thinking of things like climate change and where they live now.

9. ENTROPYCITY Session Content: Re-imagining the future/Carbon footprints The carbon footprint theme will link in with some of the environmental information Google Earth can provide; this links to further legacy for geography and science http://www.gearthhacks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3660&goto= nextoldest One of the sessions would involve urban design professionals who can talk about widening new building’s footprints and how to minimise carbon footprints in new builds. We would do some work building virtual parkland and infrastructure like public transport, maybe designing windfarms etc. Architectural site visits and walks for inspiration We can also introduce some of the latest ways you can measure your own carbon footprint: our final projects and map will have to go through carbon footprint approval as we imagine a future planning agency requiring this post 2010.
