Need of Underwater Lining • Majority of our canal system constructed in fifties to seventies and they are not lined. • In perennial canals it’s not possible to stop the flow for canal lining. • If closed for a short time the period of closure is not enough for constructing the lining with the traditional methods.
  3. 3. Latest Technique Used • Grouted Mattress Method • Lining by ‘Clay Geosynthetic Barriers’
  4. 4. Grouted Mattress Method • The technique of grouted mattress involves the use of a cover made with two layers of a specially woven synthetic fabric.
  5. 5. • Strip or threaded spacers are provided in the dual walled fabric which gives the mat its characteristics “cobbled" effect. • The woven fabric is positioned on the prepared slope or surface and subsequently filled with fine grained sand-cement grout mix. • The completed mat provides a slab of nominal 100mm thickness.
  6. 6. Procedure • Special pipes are then inserted to the bottom of the frame work. • Colloidal sand-cement mix is then pumped into position as the pipes are gradually withdrawn to the surface.
