Ambitions and Being contended
All round growth is a sign of lively life of human. These include relationship, intellect, spiritual,
emotional, physical, and financial growth. Enhancing knowledge, niche skills, acquiring unique
experiences while performing routine activities help to be expert and to grow. 2 cycles of Performance
evaluation and appraisal in a year allow individual to introspect and plan to improve all round
personality. During the cycle colleagues as true friends do help to convey feedback and suggestions.
Appraisal ultimately results in the appreciation, recognition of individual contribution in a team and
finally financial growth as an individual which matters to the most.
Appraisal is categorised as socialist and capitalist. A saint enlightened a spiritual side of appraisal.
Contradiction of human ambitions and expectations were explained nicely in below 2 scenarios.
1. Individual expects colleagues to be superhuman, expert in latest technologies, behave nicely, work
efficiently, possess leadership qualities, have an effective communication, etc etc and to be better
than him/herself while supporting at work.
2. However an individual expects to be ranked at the top (meaning others are not ranked as good)
during appraisal (or in ranking), and ONLY happy if self is ranked better than others. What kind of
happiness is this? to see others not as good? (Contrary to the expectations spelled above)
Since school days an individual is happy only when tops in a class, meaning others have not done as
good. This contradiction is termed as sickness. It’s a newer thought. Can we be happy to see everyone
growing? We focus on self, be expert in specific area, the best in at least one of the attributes, and
efficient professional, and happy even if others are doing equally better.
One of the colleagues was very happy having a good financial rise and became extremely unhappy
after learning his friend was promoted. Can we be more accommodative and overcome this sickness
of comparison? Its virtual game between an individual and relative competitiveness with others.
One more aspect which I strongly believe, designation is absolutely a virtual position. It is closely
associated with your working organisation. Once you are out, you are an individual. What the truth is
your education, knowledge, skills, experience, and attributes you possess. On some or other day, even
most powerful person on the earth, a president of USA becomes X-president, proving designation is
truly virtual entity. So don’t spoil your happiness if not designated next higher. What is important, are
your views heard and weighted? Are you respected? Are you known for your expertise, execution
abilities, being friendly and nicer individual? That’s it!
Having ambition to contribute as much, not only in your organisation but also for the society, city,
county and globe, however, remain grounded and contended is a balancing act. You need to deliver.
Look at the kites flying in the sky and a girl slackening on a string holding a balancing stick.

  • 1. Ambitions and Being contended All round growth is a sign of lively life of human. These include relationship, intellect, spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial growth. Enhancing knowledge, niche skills, acquiring unique experiences while performing routine activities help to be expert and to grow. 2 cycles of Performance evaluation and appraisal in a year allow individual to introspect and plan to improve all round personality. During the cycle colleagues as true friends do help to convey feedback and suggestions. Appraisal ultimately results in the appreciation, recognition of individual contribution in a team and finally financial growth as an individual which matters to the most. Appraisal is categorised as socialist and capitalist. A saint enlightened a spiritual side of appraisal. Contradiction of human ambitions and expectations were explained nicely in below 2 scenarios. 1. Individual expects colleagues to be superhuman, expert in latest technologies, behave nicely, work efficiently, possess leadership qualities, have an effective communication, etc etc and to be better than him/herself while supporting at work. 2. However an individual expects to be ranked at the top (meaning others are not ranked as good) during appraisal (or in ranking), and ONLY happy if self is ranked better than others. What kind of happiness is this? to see others not as good? (Contrary to the expectations spelled above) Since school days an individual is happy only when tops in a class, meaning others have not done as good. This contradiction is termed as sickness. It’s a newer thought. Can we be happy to see everyone growing? We focus on self, be expert in specific area, the best in at least one of the attributes, and efficient professional, and happy even if others are doing equally better. One of the colleagues was very happy having a good financial rise and became extremely unhappy after learning his friend was promoted. Can we be more accommodative and overcome this sickness of comparison? Its virtual game between an individual and relative competitiveness with others. One more aspect which I strongly believe, designation is absolutely a virtual position. It is closely associated with your working organisation. Once you are out, you are an individual. What the truth is your education, knowledge, skills, experience, and attributes you possess. On some or other day, even most powerful person on the earth, a president of USA becomes X-president, proving designation is truly virtual entity. So don’t spoil your happiness if not designated next higher. What is important, are your views heard and weighted? Are you respected? Are you known for your expertise, execution abilities, being friendly and nicer individual? That’s it! Having ambition to contribute as much, not only in your organisation but also for the society, city, county and globe, however, remain grounded and contended is a balancing act. You need to deliver. Look at the kites flying in the sky and a girl slackening on a string holding a balancing stick.
