Editor's Notes
Yesterday and BBC are the main channels which we have decided to create our programme to. We originally chose yesterday and BBC four, we have continued with yesterday as the majority of programmes aired are historical documentaries, therefore our war documentary shall fit suitably. We were also able to find a list of content which must be included in order to make sure that the programme fits with the channels regular shows. BBC Four caused us issues because we were unable to gather information about the individual channel, it was only about BBC as a whole. This is the reason we changed the channel to BBC one as it was easier to research and also had similar programmes already being shown.
Shared audience means there is equality between male and female These are the individual audiences for each channel. This will help us to specify our documentary and to create our own target audience which fits in with that of the channels. Although the audience age is quite elderly, we are able to specify and edit certain aspects to keep the content and viewers suited to other modern audiences.
Strong Human Dimension – meaning that the texts must have emotional links to the audience, causing empathy and relevance to viewers. Common factors – people must be already aware so that the market is not niche and/or obscure Engaging audience – keep people hooked on the subject of the documentary Originality – the ideas should be quirky, with an unusual or never-before-seen approach to a subject Factual presenters – they like presenters whom are exciting Not a history lesson – should be enticing rather than boring. Teach them without them subconsciously
70% of the shows which are aired on BBC Four are brand new, allowing for new audiences
Our documentary shall focus on whether remembering them is still relevant in todays society and whether not people are as affected as they once were. People today are less knowledgeable of events, hence this being an opportunity to tell stories and educate people in a fun and interesting way
Strengths: - use of montage allows us to set the scene and provide the audience with establishing shots of areas, - artefacts make the documentary more intriguing and provide evidence for what is being said, - this is also accompanied by interviews with witnesses which is further evidence and thorough information Weaknesses: - plain backgrounds are boring and cause audience members, especially young to lose interest easily, this is time consuming, -repetitive shots of the same area causes the audience to be bored and through using shots of the same area Opportunities: -through making a documentary on a historical event, both viewers and the creators are able to learn about events Threats: - the difficulty behind archive footage may make it hard for us to include the use of proper evidence, - suitable music shall also be hard to find especially as there may be copyright issues when suitable non-diegetic sound is found, -
