The purpose of our actions, as artists, is to look for indicators or stimulus that might set a brief for making or other reaction. This is completely normal within the traditions of landscape painting, where the painter’s aim is to discover the environment and its essential qualities.
 
 
WHAT WILL OUR PRACTICE/RESEARCH DEVELOP, TEST, PROVE? WHAT DISCRETE PROBLEMS  DOES THE PRACTICE SEEK TO ADDRESS?  WHAT VARIABLES MIGHT TEST OR MITIGATE THE RESEARCH? WHAT IS THE ROLE OR INVESTMENT OF THE ‘USER’ COMMUNITY? HOW CAN A METRICS DRIVEN TOOLKIT BE TRANSFERRED TO NON-SPECIALIST ‘USERS’?
WHAT IS THE CONTRIBUTION TO RELEVANT DISCOURSES AFFECTING THE CURRENCY OF OUR SPECIFIC DISCIPLINE FIELD? HOW IS THE ROLE OF CREATIVE ARTS  IN CONTEMPORARY SOCILA COHESION PRACTICES CAPTURED AND DEFINED?  CAN ARTS PRACTICES BE MODELLED TO PROVIDE VALUE TO SOCIETY AND ECONOMIC STIMULUS IN THE CONTEXT OF REGENERATION? IS THERE A MEASURABLE CONTRIBUTION, BEYOND CULTURAL DIALOGUES, TO SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ARCHITECTURE? CAN WE RELY ON THE ARTS TO DELIVER OVERALL COST BENEFITS TO ALL SIGNIFICANT BREADTH OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY?
I’M NOT SURE I SUFFICIENTLY CARE? RESEARCH CREATES A DISTRACTION FROM CREATIVE PRACTICE?  CREATIVE PRACTICE IS AN END IN ITSELF, IT IS ITS OWN CASE STUDY? CREATIVE PRACTICE IS YIELDING, MALEABLE, PERMEABLE, ALTERABLE AND, THEREFORE, VULNERABLE? WHAT WE DO IS A METHOD OF ENGAGEMENT THAT PROVIDES LOTS OF INTERACTIVE RESEARCH SCENARIOS, ALL OF WHICH ARE A DISTRACTION FROM OUR NATURAL DESIRES AND HABITS.  THE ONES WE SEEK TO WORK WITH ARE THE ONES THAT TEND TO MEET WITH OUR PASSIONS AND POLITICAL INSTINCTS.  THERE IS A LOT OF ROOM FOR COMPROMISE, BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE PRACTICE IS NO LONGER OURS AND NOT TO THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE RICH ENERGY AND MAGIC OF ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR AS AN EXPERIENCE MIGHT BE ERODED OR DISSOLVED?

REdGENERATION is:  A product development CIC run by young people. We design, commission and bring to market, Salford branded products. We make products about Salford, in Salford, for Salford. We aim to make profit from people with money. We aim to give money to families in Salford displaced by regeneration.

‘ GUNS TO GOODS’ CARISMA, 2008 – ongoing. In 2006/07 Greater Manchester saw a 9% increase in incidents from 110 in 2005/06 to 120 incidents. Six of the discharges resulted in a fatality, including  the death of Jessie James. Jessie’s death reflects our greatest concern; the increased victimisation of young people in the  community by those involved in firearms criminality.
GUNS INTO GOODS is intended to engage with young  people who are at greatest risk of becoming involved in gang and gun culture as victims, witnesses and or offenders.

Primary Heads CPD Taking the board game Proposal as inspiration, this model of reflective practice has been tested with Primary Head Teachers during a CPD training session focusing on Creativity & RE. The teachers were asked to use the zone structure to divide their board and create tasks (rather than artists briefs) for the players to undertake. In this instance teachers replaced my content with research related to QCA schemes of work. The teachers designed the look of the board and developed their own method of moving around the board. The teacher found that setting a task to collect various objects and pieces of information would help pupils reflect on a topic and was also a useful revision tool. The teacher also found nominating some cards as discussion questions would be useful in generating debate in class.
