Confidence
• Self-confidence is extremely important in
every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle
to find it. People who lack self-confidence can find it
difficult to become successful.
• Self-confident people are admired by others and
inspire confidence in others. They face their fears
head-on and tend to be risk takers.
• Self-confident people tend to see their lives in a
positive light even when things aren't going so well,
and they are typically satisfied and respect
themselves.
Confidence comes from discipline and training
Image Reading 1
Confidence
• Two main things contribute to
self-confidence: self-efficacy and self-esteem.
• We gain a sense of self-efficacy when we see ourselves
(and others similar to ourselves) mastering skills and
achieving goals that matter in those skill areas. This is
the confidence that, if we learn and work hard in a
particular area, we'll succeed; and it's this type of
confidence that leads people to accept difficult
challenges, and persist in the face of setbacks.
• This overlaps with the idea of self-esteem, which is a
more general sense that we can cope with what's going
on in our lives, and that we have a right to be happy.
Confidence
• Look what you have achieved
– Think about your life so far, and list the ten best things
you've achieved. Perhaps you came top in an
important test or exam, played a key role in an
important team, did something that made a key
difference in someone else’s life, or delivered a project
that meant a lot for your business..
– Enjoy the success you have already achieved and
believe that you can achieve it again.
Your past success is testimony that you can achieve in
future also.

Confidence
• Think positive
– Think whether your thoughts about you are
positive or negative. Stop thinking negative about
yourself.
– Think about your qualities and then good
thoughts will start coming.
– Once you start thinking positive, start acting
positive.
– Believe in yourself even if you don’t know how to
do.
Know yourself and you will win all battles.
Confidence
• Set small goals
– Set for yourself a small goal and try to achieve it.
– Small little achievements make you feel good, and
they add up to big achievements.
– Pat yourself when you achieve your goal.
– Continue to learn from your experience and learn
from your failures what needs to be improved.
Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
• One businessman was in debt and couldn’t figure out a way out of
it. Creditors were pressing him. Suppliers were demanding for a
payment. He was sitting on a bench in the park with his head down,
thinking what could save the company from bankruptcy. Suddenly,
an old man appeared in front of him.
– I see that something is bothering you, – he said.
After listening to the businessman, the old man said:
– I think I can help you.
He asked the businessman, what his name was, wrote him a check
and said:
– Take this money. We will meet here exactly in one year, and you
will be able to return it to me at that time.
After that, he turned around and disappeared just as suddenly as
he appeared.
The businessman saw a check in his hands for an amount of 500
thousand dollars, signed by
• John Rockefeller, one of the richest people in the world at that time!
‘I could end all of my problems in no time!’ – He thought. But instead, the
businessman decided to put the check into his safe. Only one thought
about its existence gave him strength to find a solution to save his
business.
With the return of his optimism, he concluded profitable deals. During a
couple of months he got out of debt and started to earn money again.
Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the same check. At the
agreed time the old man appeared again. And at the moment, when the
businessman wanted to return the check and to share his story of success,
a nurse ran up and grabbed the old man.
– I’m so glad, I caught him! – She exclaimed. – I hope he wasn’t bothering
you. He always runs away from the house and tells he is John Rockefeller.
The businessman was bemused. During the whole year he was spinning
and building a business, buying and selling, convinced that he had half a
million dollars. And suddenly he understood that it’s not the money, real
or imaginary, that turned his life up. It was his new confidence and belief
that gave him strength to achieve everything that he had now
Confidence
• Empower yourself with knowledge
– Empowering yourself, is one of the best strategies
for building self-confidence.
– By becoming more knowledgeable, you’ll be more
confident.
– The world belongs to the learners. Try to read
some book, watch some inspirational videos.
– Set aside atleast 30mins in a day to learn
something new.
Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.

Confidence
• Learn and deliver
– Identify things at which you are good, it could be
cooking, dancing, painting or making some one happy.
– Keep improving what your are good at, this will boost
your confidence.
– At the same time try to learn a new art. Keep
practicing this till you become good at it.
– When time comes to show your talent, don’t be afraid
and be confident to show the world what you have
got.
Confidence is what you create within yourself by
believing who your are.
Case study 1
• Jasmine has moved from Ranchi to Delhi. Her friends
in Ranchi had similar attitude and beliefs like her. In
Delhi people are from different backgrounds and
belief system. Jasmine feels a bit lonely at first and
spends a lot of time texting her mates around the
country. The novelty soon wears off and Jasmine
starts to think about making new friends.
– If you were Jasmine, what things might you do to
start meeting people?
– How does confidence come into this ?
Case study 2
• Shekhar has thrived well on studying hard
once or twice a year for exams - his new
course is structured in modules and requires a
constant effort to meet coursework deadlines.
When his first result comes back, Shekhar has
just scraped a pass mark - and the feedback
from his teacher is harsh.
–Can you identify the factors which might
have an impact on Shekhar's confidence
levels?
