THE STUDY OF EFFECT OF IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS DURING ORGAN.pptx

  1. 1. THE STUDY OF EFFECT OF IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS DURING ORGAN TRANSPLANT BY- SAUBHAGYA SAJWAN ROLL NO. 118 ENROLLMENT NO.- A0504120025
  2. 2. WHAT ARE IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS?  Immunosuppressants are drugs or medicines that lower the body's ability to reject a transplanted organ. Another term for these drugs is anti-rejection drugs.  There are 2 types of immunosuppressants: 1.Induction drugs: Powerful antirejection medicine used at the time of transplant 2.Maintenance drugs: Antirejection medications used for the long term. Think of a real estate mortgage; the down payment is like the induction drug and the monthly payments are like maintenance drugs. If the down payment is good enough you can lower the monthly payments, the same as for immunosuppression.
  3. 3. WHAT ARE IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS USED FOR?  For example if you go through a kidney transplant, the body knows that this new kidney is certainly foreign (that it was never originally a part of your body). Your body is bound to attack this new kidney and will definitely try to damage or better is to destroy it. This is where immunosuppressant drugs come into play which help to suppress ones body's capability to do this. The major goal here is to modify these drugs to prevent rejection and to reduce any side effects of the drugs.
  4. 4. ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION  An organ transplant is a surgical operation in which a failed or a damaged organ of a particular human body is purposely removed and replaced with a fully functional organ. This organ which is replaced can be acquired from a number of option for example a deceased donor , a living donor , or an animal. Examples of some organs that can be transplanted- 1. Heart 2. Kidneys 3. Liver 4. Lungs 5. Pancreas 6. Intestine 7. Thymus
  5. 5. TYPES OF ORGAN TRANSPLANTS 1. Autograft 2. Allograft 3. Isograft 4. Xenograft 5. Split Transplant 6. Domino Transplant
  6. 6. CLASSIFICATION OF IMMUNOSUPPRESSANT DRUGS  Classification Immunosuppressive drugs into 5 groups: 1. Glucocorticoids 2. Cytostatic 3. Antibodies 4. Drugs acting on Immunophilins 5. Other drugs
