When you have completed tasks you should consider the following:
How do you think you have done in the assignment?
Using the assessment criteria grid that you have already been issued please highlight where you feel
you have met each criteria within the assignment. For example where you think you have met the
criteria for P1 and so on.

2. Learning Outcomes
Outcome 1 – Know the structure and function of the skeletal system
Grading Guidance
For all the identified grading criteria you will need to:
Pass Criteria
P1 Describe the structure and function of the skeletal system
P2 Describe the different classifications of joints
3. Scenario
The 206 bones that make up the human skeleton are specifically designed to provide several functions
which are essential for participation in physical activity.
To understand how the body performs at all levels of sports activity, it is necessary to know the structure
and functions of the skeletal system.
In your role as a sports scientist you are to provide information that indicates the importance of this system
in relation to movement within sporting activity.
TASKS
Task 1
Insert labels for all of the highlighted bones in the diagrams below (Pass 1)
Task 2
On the diagram of the skeleton in task 1 highlight the axial and appendicular skeleton in a different colour.
You must then describe the function of each system e.g. support, blood cell production etc (Pass 1)
4. Task 3
Complete the table with details of the 3 classifications of joint within the body, give examples of these joints
and discuss the amount of movement that is available at each one (Pass 2)
Classification/ Structure/shape of the Movement allowed at Examples of
type of joint joint joint joint within the
body
TIP: To describe you should try and paint a picture in words to the reader. It is useful to always
think that the reader of your script knows nothing and therefore you have to teach the reader the
knowledge that you have on paper. Remember that one classification of joint has 6 types of joint within
it.
Ensure you cover all the key features of the point that your are describing
