2. This film is made for the BBC short films. Contraction follows the idea of life literally being pushed back into a person and how it affects the immediate surroundings. The synopsis of the film is about the concept of rebirth. Contractions is a short film made particularly for the F5 film and Animation conference in New York. The director Christopher Hewitt wanted to create something very filmic and abstract, something that would make the viewer question what might have happened beforehand. About the film

3. Christopher Hewitt is a self taught Director, Photographer and Writer located in East London. With 9 years commercial experience his clients include EMI Records, BBC & Discovery Channel. His short films have been featured in a number of film festivals including Rushes, OneDotZero and Promax whilst also receiving recognition from industry publications such as Boards, Stash & Creative Review. 5. Here are a few examples of the camera angles. First of all you go straight away into to an extreme close up, of the guys face for 15 seconds, getting closer and closer to his face. This is to show the intense at the beginning of the film, to get you hooked and want to watch more. Camera Angles

6. Straight away the person looks dead, by how their face looks really pale, and by having his eyes open all the time. Then he blinks and the screen goes to totally darkness, like a blackout.

7. You then see a girl, looking down at the ground, brushing her hand across her face because her hair is in the way. She is in direct sunlight, with the stone cold brick wall behind her. This is to show the coldness of the place.

8. You can hear the sound of trees in the background throughout the short film. Half way through the film you start to hear some non diegetic music in the background, like peaceful and relaxing, it’s so quite you only can just about to hear it. Sound

9. Lots of jump cuts to speed up time in this process of the short film Editing

10. It is only half way through where you start to see where the two characters are. When it goes to a mid shot, you see that they are on the roof of a building, but you do not find out what building it is. You also notice that the male character is lying down on the concrete floor and there is a brick wall close by. Mise-en-scene
