3. STANDARDS MET
NETS:
1.Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop
innovative products and processes using technology. Students:
a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.
b. create original works as a means of personal or group expression.
c. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.
d. identify trends and forecast possibilities.
3.Research and Information Fluency
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students:
a. plan strategies to guide inquiry.
b.locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information
from a variety of sources and media.
c. evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the
appropriateness to specific tasks.
d.process data and report results.
How the standards are met in this project:
NET 1: Creativity and innovation is met mainly through the creation
of their story on Storybird. The student must think creatively first in
order to come up with their story and how to write it from the
perspective of a different character. They then must take their prior
knowledge of writing and the Storybird program and put together
their own story on it, choosing artwork, and writing correctly and
creatively.
NET 3: Research and information fluency is met mainly through the
research portion of the project. They will have to plan how they will
use their time and resources in the library to find their three stories.
They also have to evaluate whether or not the information they found
fits the requirements and if they should use that story or find a
different one. Also, they will be using online research sites as well as
the library website to lookup different books and then go find them.
Finally, they need to process what they have found in order to then
use it for their project; this is done in the short write-up they do for
each book.

Fairy Tale Research
First Book:
1. Title: Cinderella
2. Author: Sue Arengo
3. How is it similar and different from the traditional version:
This book very closely follows the traditional story of Cinderella and did not have
any major differences.
Second Book:
1. Title: Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story from China
2. Author: Ai-Ling Louie
3. How is it similar and different from the traditional version:
This book is a Chinese version of Cinderella. It follows a similar storyline,
but there are some differences in details. Similar to the traditional story
Cinderella, she is an orphan living with an evil stepmother and sister. Different
from the normal story, her “fairy godmother” is a spirit that comes from fish
bones and she ends up marrying a king instead of a prince. She does lose a shoe,
but it is a gold slipper instead of glass.

Third Book:
1. Title: Prince Cinders
2. Author: Babette Cole
3. How is it similar and different from the traditional version:
This book is very different from the traditional version of Cinderella. It is told
from the stance of the prince. He is very scrawny and lives in the shadow of his older
brothers who are big and hairy. Similar to Cinderella they make him clean up after them
and don’t let him go to the parties with them. There is a fairy, but she accidentally turns
him into a gorilla, and he doesn’t know so thinking he is big and hairy like he asked he
goes to the party and meets the princess, but scares her. Just then it is midnight and the
spell wears off just like in Cinderella and the princess thinks he has saved her from the
gorilla. He is very shy and runs away leaving his pants instead of a slipper and she goes
throughout the kingdom trying to find the owner. She finally does and they live happily
ever after.
