Robert-Edomi attended the Online Educa conference and from that, he describes the
challenges of a multigenerational workforce and qualities of the generation Y, representing
born between 1983 and 1999. He writes about changes that a company is facing in order to
attract, recruit and retain young people.
He shows a research that was presented by Ashridge business school describing
various aspects of the young generation and the difference to the traditionalists aged 65 and
over. Generation Y comes into the workplace with a wide knowledge about technology and
they see themselves as more aspiring than the traditionalist see themselves also do they
demand work enquiry which is equal their needs .
However Robert-Edemi says that the technological changes are continuing at a rapid
pace and organizations will have to meet these changes.
Robert-Edomi provides useful and in depth going information about what the
organizations will have to expect from the future generation, giving base to my upcoming
argumentative essay.

The future of young Europeans

According to Francis and Scheers, they categorized the people into four categories:
The traditionalists, the baby boomers and the X & Y generations. The young Europeans that
have been surveyed are in the Y generation. The authors of the technical advances mention
that one can witness the changes not only in the daily life, but also at the workplace. Francis
and Scheers surveyed young Europeans with questions about the future workplace. They
mentioned advantages such as improved data storage for electronic devices, as well as
improved cloud storage, which makes working from home easier and gives more flexibility.
On the other hand the flexibility could also be a disadvantage because it might create a blur
line between work and private life.
Their research also focuses on challenges that companies have, due to the power of
outer the shareholder. Shareholders are able to make changes in budget and salaries, which
might be. However, even though everything is getting digitized, the needs for social
interaction and physical contact still remains and after all, people still prefer the face-to-face
relationship.
This article presents an example on how the future workforce could be like and what
students will expect. Thus it provides useful information that can be used for my upcoming
academic essay.

current and the future workforce. The babyboomers, which are categorized as the current
workforce, expect a good a career, salary increasement over the time, recognition, loyalty and
job security. They are used to the command-and-control system and a hierarchically structure
in the organization.
The generation of the future workforce (generation Y) will have to continuously adapt
modernizing work environments to improve and refine their skills. The future generation is
expected to work collaborative, both face-to-face and virtual. Due to the rapidly changing
technology at the workplace, the future generation might not have a good work-life balance
because the technology blurs the line between private life and workplace
Due to worldwide digitation and the entering of generation Y into the workforce,
there might be some tension between the baby boomer/traditionalist and the generation Y. As
the generation Y are becoming managers there will be some problems between the current
and the future way of doing business .
Overall, this article provides various and useful information about the current and the
future workforce. The authors explain how the future workforce might look like and what
kind of challenges the generation Y might have to face.

Otto, Wahl, Lefort and Frei describe their research about today’s workforce facing
challenges due to the different kind of generations working together. To have different
generations working and using technology together might create a tension, which managers
must find a balance in order to get higher productivity. The authors highlight the effects that
can occur due to multitasking on the employee. An example would be the increase of stress.
If employees are facing stress, they might end up with a burnout. To avoid that, organizations
will have to make researches and find out the positive and negatives points of multitasking.
To achieve that, one has to consider three objectives. Firstly it is to find the context. Thus, the
relevant information have to be collected.
Secondly is to analyze the effects that multitasking brings on productivity. The third action is
to see what are the differences between multitasking and time management and see which
one is more effective.
However, researches have found out that multitasking has not as many positive points
as time management. Another important print, is the fact that people who can choose between
multitasking or time management, have higher job satisfaction.
This article provides information from researches about how effective multitasking is.
However, for my argumentative essay, only some informations are useful and provides an to
answer my question.

Introduction
The technology changes at a rapid pace. Not only in the daily life but also at the workplace
one can witness the digitation. Organizations have to adapt the new technologies and train,
refine and improve their employees skills. There are a lot of advantages to the digital
evolution but there are also many challenger for the future workforce. Not only the
technology is changing but also the working style and expectations differ from each
generation. Since the generation Y is entering the workforce organizations might experience
culture clash. Which means that different generations are working together under one roof.
Therefor there might be some tension between the previous generation (baby boomer and
traditionalist) and the generation X and Y. Even though organizations are facing challenges,
there are solutions for employees to refine and improve their skills. Students need to
understand the rapid changes in the technology and also the challenges that they will face in
their coming work life. Therefor it is important for the young generation to always keep
improving their skills.

Due to the rapid changes in technology, organizations are facing many challenges which they
have to adapt to make their business attractive for the future generation. Not only
organizations but also employees and employers have to adapt, refine and improve their skills
to stay longer in the business. It is important for students to know the opportunities and the
challenges they will face at the workplace so it help them to understand what will be
expected from them. Therefor Information Technology (IT) should be teached early in
school.
