Ltd. • About the Company : Bonfiglioli was established on 16 April 1956 to put into practice the business ideas of Clementino Bonfiglioli, who brought to his new company years of experience in the design and manufacture of gearboxes for agricultural machinery and motorcycles (including legendary names like Ducati, Gilera and Moto Morini).
  3. 3. Founder Of The Company • Clementino Bonfiglioli : Clementino Bonfiglioli was born in Bologna in 1928. He dedicated himself to the study of engineering and graduated from the “AldiniValeriani” Technical Institute. He began work as a designer and tester in leading gearbox companies in Bologna where he very soon came to appreciate how much growth that sector would soon enjoy as the result of developments in industrial automation in the Bologna area.

Brands of the Company • Bongfiglioli Riduttori: Bonfiglioli Riduttori designs and produces gear motors and power transmission components for integration into applications of all kinds and dimensions. • Bonfiglioli Trasmital: Bonfiglioli Trasmital specialises in the production of planetary gearboxes for mobile machines, from excavators to road construction machinery, and also produces gearboxes for wind turbines.
  5. 5. • Bonfiglioli Vectron: Bonfiglioli Vectron offers a wide range of electronic products and solutions for electrical power control and conversion, including frequency converters, photovoltaic inverters, regenerative systems and servomotors. • Tecnoingranaggi: The Tecnoingranaggi brand is dedicated to the production of high precision, low backlash planetary gear units.

  11. 11. Specific Work • Purpose: To understand the process of gear box selection and subsequent installation with derailing on preventive maintenance procedures.

  13. 13. Gearbox Selection Tools • Online Selection of Gearboxes: We can select gearboxes online by providing basic information like ratio required, motor form, torque required etc. Other factors like cost, models etc. are decided with the help of company’s representatives.
  14. 14. • Gearbox Selection Tools: Some companies like Nord, Sew etc. use selection software like Nord Cad etc. However, Bonfiglioli currently does not use any such software. This is due to high variety and range of gearboxes. • Catalogue of Bonfiglioli: Bonfiglioli has a very well maintained and defined catalogue for each range of product offerings. The data required for selection of gearbox can be applied to sort out the required model and same can be discussed with the Bonfiglioli representatives.
  15. 15. Information of AS Series Gearbox • Torque: Rated Torque: Torque transmissible through output shaft, under uniform loading. Required Torque: Torque corresponding to application requirements. It must always be equal to or less than rated torque for the gearbox under study. Calculated Torque: torque value to be used when selecting the gearbox.
  16. 16. • Power: Input Rated Power: the power applicable to input shaft based on input speed n1 and corresponding to service factor fs = 1. • Thermal Capacity: Pt is the power that can be transmitted through the gear unit, under a continuous duty and an ambient temperature of 20C, without resulting into damage of the inner parts or degradation of the lubricant properties.
  17. 17. • Efficiency: Obtained from the relationship of output power to input power. • Gear Ratio: The value for the gear ratio is referred to with the letter (i) and calculated through the relationship of the input speed n1 to the output speed n2: i= n1/n2 The gear ratio is usually a decimal fraction.
  18. 18. • Service Factor: This factor is the numeric value describing reducer service duty. It takes into consideration, with unavoidable approximation, daily operating conditions, load variations and overheads connected with reducer application. • Maintenance: Life lubricated gearboxes do not require any periodical oil changes. For other types of gearboxes, the first oil changes must take place after about 300 hours of operation.

Installation of the Gearbox • Make sure that the gearbox is correctly secured to avoid vibrations. • Before being paint coated, the machined surface and the outer face of the oil seals must be protected. • Mating surfaces must be cleaned and treated with suitable protective products • For outdoor installation provide adequate guards in order to protect the drive from rainfalls as well as direct sun radiation.
