Creation of a new Web site on IIS
Before you will start installation of ScrumDesk API you need to ensure that at least one web site exists on
your IIS server. Usually IIS server contains Default Web Site but if it does not you need to create your own
site.
1. Open Internet Information Services Manager
(Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools)
2. Right click on Site node and choose Add Web

3. Enter Site name and click on Select button to
choose Application pool. You can select
existing or your own application pool but
you need to choose pool that uses ASP. NET
v4.0
4. Enter physical path to folder where you will
install ScrumDesk API (it can be changed
afterwards).
Choose http binding type (we do not support
https yet).
Enter port number that is not used by
another web site. (Ensure that chosen port is
not blocked by your firewall)

ScrumDesk API installation
1. Download ScrumDesk API installation
from www.scrumdesk.com and save it
on your server
2. Execute setup.exe and click Next button
3. Select Site that exists on your IIS. See
chapter Creating of a new Web site on
IIS if you want to create a new web site.
Enter name of the virtual directory. This
will be part of service URL.
Select the same application pool that is
the same as application pool of
selected site.
Click Next button

5. Click Next button to start installation

Configuration
In order to connect to ScrumDesk database you need to update connection string in web.config file that is
stored in ScrumDesk API installation folder.
1. Find and open web.config in any editor
2. Find xml tag <connectionStrings>. It contains
one connection string with name
ScrumDeskEntities
3. Replace following attributes
data source – it is the address to the SQL
server itself, in either a domain type of
construction (like:MyServer.Com), or an IP
address (like: 198.12.198.7)
initial catalog – it is name of your
ScrumDesk database
user id – it is SQL server user that can access
your ScrumDesk DB
password – it is password of the user
Test installation in browser
You can test your installation in any browser. Enter URL of your service to the browser. Format of URL is
http://address_of_your_server:port_number/WebAPI/ScrumDeskService.svc. Enter name of your
ScrumDesk database, ScrumDesk user (format: ScrumDeskDatabaseUser) and password to the
authentication dialog and you should see response from ScrumDesk service.
