The official celebrations of Independence Day begin in the capital
Helsinki. Continuing then with a religious service. Traditionally, the
national TV broadcasts every year on the 1955 film "Tuntematon
sotilas" (the unknown soldier)

In Finnish homes instead it is traditional to celebrate Independence Day
by placing two candles lit for each window of the house; This tradition
goes back to the popular legend that the candles were used as a signal
to communicate to young Finns who fought against Russian oppression
that the house could offer them shelter and protection.
4. itsENÄISYYPÄIVÄ
The two main traditions of this day, however, are the parade of
students and the presidential dance.
