2. Avram Noam Chomsky
Was born on December 7th, 1928.
American linguist, philosopher,
cognitive scientist, historian, and
activist.
“Father of modern linguistics"
His work has influenced fields such
as computer science, mathematics,
and psychology.
He is also known as an intellectual
dissent.
3. His parents were Dr. William
(Zev) Chomsky and Elsie
Simonofsky.
William was an eminent
scholar, author of the study
Hebrew, the Eternal Language.
Chomsky was introduced to
linguistics by his father.
He earned a doctoral degree in linguistics in 1955.
He elaborate them in his 1957 book Syntactic Structures,
one of his best-known works in linguistics.
4. He has written a lot of books related to his works in
linguistics being Syntactic Structures the first one:
The Sound Pattern of English (with
Morris Halle, 1968).
Language and Mind (1972).
Studies on Semantics in Generative
Grammar (1972).
Knowledge of Language (1986).
5. Chomsky has been active in the politics scene, and it is
considered as a key figure in the left-wing politics.
By the 1980's he had become both the most
distinguished figure of American linguistics and one of the
most influential left-wing critics of American foreign
policy.

linguistics
Chomsky’s goal as linguist was “to find the principles
common to all languages that enable people to speak
creatively and freely.”
Chomsky’s definition of linguistic is the following: it is “a set
(finite or infinite) of sentences, each finite in length and
constructed out of a finite set of elements.”
He suggests that it is a natural ability that is, we are all born
with this set of rules about language in our heads which he
refers to as the 'Universal Grammar'.
