2. WHAT IS A BAR MITZVAH
The term "bar mitzvah" refers to when a boy comes of
age at 13-years-old he has become a "bar mitzvah"
and is recognized by Jewish tradition as having the
same rights as a full grown man. A boy who has
become a Bar Mitzvah is now morally and ethically
responsible for his decisions and actions.
The term "bar mitzvah" also refers to the religious
ceremony that accompanies a boy becoming a Bar
Mitzvah. Often a celebratory party will follow the
ceremony.
3. NOAH’S BAR MITZVAH PROJECT
As part of my Bar Mitzvah I wanted to do a
“Mitzvah” (good deed) for someone else. I chose to
purchase gifts for needy kids this holiday season
instead of receiving my own gifts this year. I was
able to purchase 25 brand new games and toys . I
delivered these to Amy’s Holiday Party where I
also got to volunteer. Amy’s Holiday Party was
started 18 years ago by a girl named Amy who
took the money she received from her Bat Mitzvah
and threw a holiday party at a local shelter for 20
kids. She has continued this awesome event every
year and now it provides a party for over 750
underprivileged youths across Atlanta. I was truly
amazed at what she has accomplished with this
event. The kids got the opportunity to receive two
gifts, play carnival games, dance at a DJ party, eat
pizza and cookies, do numerous crafts and just
feel special for a day. I will continue to work with
this charity the rest of this year and for years to
come.
