The survey analyzed preferences for a local radio news bulletin. It found that most respondents were male and listen to radio news at least once a day or week. The most popular stations mentioned were Capital, Radio One, and Isle of Wight Radio. Respondents preferred a slow-paced newscaster with a local accent and mentioned liking weather reports, entertainment and sports news. However, the survey size was small and some responses appeared insincere, limiting the accuracy and breadth of the findings.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2. Question 1- Are You Male Or
Female?
From this question, we can see that the
majority of people who answered this
survey were male at 60%. This is
beneficial as we are focusing our radio
station on males as there is more males
in the group than females. It is also
useful to have some females
responding as they are the secondary
audience so we know what they like
about Radio News Bulletins to try and
mix both ideas up and cater for both
genders.
3. Question 2- How often do you listen to radio
news bulletins?
In this question, we can see that
the majority of people who
answered the question never
listen to radio news bulletins.
Despite this being the
case, there are more than half of
the people who answered that
listen to radio news bulletins at
least once every day or once a
week. This shows us that we
need to create a radio news
bulletins suitable for the target
audience and base it on what
they want.
4. Question 3- What Radio Stations do you
listen to the news on?
This question is quite weird as in the
last question, 6 people said they
never listen to Radio news bulletins
but only two people in this question
said they don’t. Despite finding
this, we can still use this data to see
what radio stations our target
audience listen to. We found that a
common answer was Capital with
Radio One and Isle Of Wight Radio
coming behind. We also got other
answers in the other box such as
Wave 105 and Jack FM. We will do
research into some of the stations
mentioned and see what they do in
their bulletins.
5. Question 4- What do you like/
dislike about radio news bulletins?
This question gives us a variety of
answers of what they like and
dislike about news bulletins. This
question was quite successful as
we gained relevant information to
take forward into the planning
stage of our news bulletins.
6. Question 5- Do you like music playing
underneath the news bulletin?
The majority of people who answered this
question said sometimes to this question.
This could indicate to us that it depends
what sort of stories are used in the
bulletin, e.g. serious or happy stories could
have a different set up.
7. Question 6- How do you
prefer your newsreader to
present the news?
The result of this question showed us that the
majority of people who answered this question
preferred a slow paced bulletin with the
newsreader having a local accent. We also
received some helpful comments to help us
have a suitable newsreader for our news
bulletin such as consistent pace, audible, no
annoying accent and a clear voice. All these
suggestions will be taken forward and
considered into the planning stage.
8. Question 7- Do you
prefer multiple
presenting voice or
one consistent
voice?
When asking a question of how
many presenting voices people
like hearing, the majority of
people preferred one voice.
9. Question 8-Do you
prefer male or
female voices in
Radio News
Bulletins?
In this question, the majority of
people have no preference to
what gender the voice is. This is
helpful as it means we can
choose anyone and not find
someone of a particular gender.
10. Question 9- What features
of News Bulletin would
you like to hear?
Weather seemed to be the most popular
feature of the news followed by
Entertainment, Special Interests and sport. We
also received comments shown on the right
about having local and international news and
an events guide. We will take these ideas
forward.
11. Question 10- Any other Comments?
We put this question on the end of the
survey to try and gain more ideas into what
to include in the news bulletin.
Unfortunately, this question wasn’t answered
the way we wanted it to and we didn’t gain
any ideas to take forward but we tried.
12. Our Findings…
• All of the results we got from this survey will contribute into the planning of the
Radio News Bulletin. We did find that some people didn’t take the survey
seriously meaning that our results may not be as accurate as we would have
liked.
• Our survey size is quite small meaning we don’t get a wide range of people’s
views meaning our majority for each question is limited and we don’t get a broad
picture of what our target audience like.
