information literacy professional

Activities
What are your ideas for the profile of the ILP in the FE sector?
1. Use the following headings to gather ideas (or, if you don’t like the headings, suggest and use some different ones)
Skills for an ILP
Knowledge for an ILP
Attitudes for an ILP
How an employer can support the development of an ILP
How national/sectoral professional associations can support the development of an ILP
How the ILP can support her/his own development
Resources (books, reports, blog entries, articles etc. etc.) you think might be relevant (e.g. to give someone new to FE what the job was
like)
Good channels, networks etc. for developing the skills/ knowledge / attitudes (internal or external)
2. Decide whether you want some individual time to jot down ideas first, or whether you want to go straight into group discussion
3. Put your key ideas onto the form; pool them on flip chart paper, or if one of you has a computer and you want to do it that way - put it on a
PowerPoint
Follow up
Has this prompted any ideas about your own CPD? If so, jot things down on the CPD handout. This handout also includes a description of four
different ways that librarians (in a research study) thought about CPD. They might be helpful in thinking about why you want to do CPD, what kinds of
CPD work for you, and who you turn to when you want to learn.
