Editor's Notes
In my quest to improve my gardening skills, I am always searching for way to improve my garden. One day, while browsing the internet on how to grow bigger pumpkins, I stumbled upon a blog that was devoted to sustainability. One characteristic of sustainable gardening is that the goal is to use as few resources, ie materials or natural as possible. I was very intrigued by this, as I began to consider how much water that I use when I nourish my growing pumpkins. There was a video of a man in missoula that had thrown scraps of timber into the back area of his garden, and later covered the logs with topsoil from another project. This is where the man experienced a first penguin moment. That area of his garden was lusher and greener than any other area of his garden. When the commentator of the videolsaid “looks like you have a Hugelkultur garden here”…my interest was peaked.
