5. BUT,
●
Currently not all devices fitting openSUSE.
●
To get good opensource life, some Companion
Opensource OS use together.
6. FOR EXAMPLE,
Linage OS, LunaOS,
Nemo Mobile, ...
KDE Plasma,
Linage OS, Fedlet, ...
CHDK, ...
OpenWRT, LEDE, ...
FreeNAS, RockStor, ...
Asteroid OS, ...
7. AND,
●
Also Old computers that slow to run openSUSE,
these choices:
– Lightweight WM (LXDE, AfterStep, ...)
– Lightweight distribution (TinyCore, Puppy Linux..)
– Thin Client
– Various OS optimized for Server or NAS
8. SITUATION #1
●
I have a
very old computer
●
It can runs currently Linux distributon, but VERY
SLOW or broken some features.
●
What's usage of this machine?
9. OPENCOCON
●
Easy way to be Thin Client on older (or some newer)
computer
●
Embedded build tools based (OpenEmbedded)
●

19. SITUATION #2
●
I have older tablet
●
Operating system is Android or Windows
●
You Favorite Apps are heavy to run, or already
unsupported
●
What's usage of this machine?
20. MORE BACKGROUND
●
Sometimes I hear in newspaper that young
people haven't Desktop or Laptop PC, but have
Smartphone or Tablet.
●
I think that need promote Opensource OS to
younger age people, we must think about how
to run Opensource OS on Tablets.
●
Secondhand Tablets is more cheeper today.
– Some tablets can get costs under 10000 yen
21. BUT, MOST TABLET OS ISN'T
HACKABLE
●
iOS is closed source (except some components), and
locked
●
Android is opensource but most of machines isn't
firmware rewritable
– sometime encounts GPL violation, Binary blobs,
and more more difficult tasks..
●
Most Windows Tablet is nearly as PC (hacker-
friendly), but not well used in Linux.
22. PROBLEM : OPENSOURCE
TABLET WINDOW MANAGERS?
●
KDE Plasma Mobile
●
GNOME 3
– KDE and GNOME is beatiful, but it seems
heavy for older Tablets.
●
Others?
– Enlightment?
– Do you know about this?
23. BEGAN MAKE TABLET OS
●
Few month ago, some member of Tokaido LUG
discussed this problem, then started develop
their own Tablet Linux distribution
●
It is named Fireduck OS :

24. CURRENT STATUS
●
OpenEmbedded based (same as opencocon)
●
Current Target : Jetson TK1, MSI Primo81 (one of
Allwinner tablet), x86 64bit UEFI (for Windows
Tablet), Raspberry Pi 3
●
Boot on some Intel or ARM tablets, but binary
release is not yet because unstable.
29. OUR OUTLOOK
●
Our goal is not only develop this, but also major
distributions (off cource include openSUSE!)
impliment more good Tablet-friendly something.
●
I welcome to join discussion or comments!
30. Let’s promote that enjoy
"free as a freedom" to more
people using Tablet!
Have a lot of fun!
