Introduction
 Current macro-trends in the healthcare system are
prompting the advancement and evolution of care,
and are setting the stage for the future healthcare job
market.
 These trends include the economy, technological
advancement, demographical variations, changes in
lifestyles and habits, and mutant government policy.
 These macro-trends that are now shaping the
healthcare system will shape the employment
landscape for healthcare professionals in the coming
decades.
Healthcare accounts for 18% of the U.S. economy, twice
as high as in other countries.
 Between 2010 and 2020, Healthcare occupations will
increase from 0.1 million to 13.1 million jobs.
 There will be 5.6 million healthcare job openings between
2010 and 2020.

coordinate the home healthcare.
 Home healthcare administrators can make sure
that necessary supplies are provided for the staff to
take care of the patients, and file all necessary
paperwork and insurance claims
 Increased cases of obesity
 The rise in chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, sleep apnea,
high blood pressure etc.

clinics, departments, or hospital facilities.

thereby cutting down

 ACA, the veterans’ plan, and other healthcare policies
generally hint at the future that awaits the industry
with future changes anticipated.
 The challenge of achieving and maintaining fair,
accessible, and affordable health insurance seems
unavoidable.
Career Opportunity: Health Policy Analysts
 They work in collecting information, analyzing potential
policies, evaluating the outcome of existing policies and
sharing information with public and government officials.
 They focus on public awareness on understanding the
stipulations of health insurance and the importance of
having coverage .
 They make sure that every citizen in each state receives the
health insurance that he or she needs.
 More people covered = more jobs to service these people

Introduction  Current macro-trends in the healthcare system are prompting the advancement and evolution of care, and are setting the stage for the future healthcare job market.  These trends include the economy, technological advancement, demographical variations, changes in lifestyles and habits, and mutant government policy.  These macro-trends that are now shaping the healthcare system will shape the employment landscape for healthcare professionals in the coming decades.
  • 3. Healthcare accounts for 18% of the U.S. economy, twice as high as in other countries.  Between 2010 and 2020, Healthcare occupations will increase from 0.1 million to 13.1 million jobs.  There will be 5.6 million healthcare job openings between 2010 and 2020.
  • 4. Emerging Macro-Trends in the U.S. Healthcare: ● Economy ● Demographical variations ● Changes in lifestyles and habits ● Technological advancements ● Mutant Government Policies
