VV Minerals India is one of the leading sand beach
mining companies in the country. The company was
established in the late 1980s by S Vaikundarajan and
has won several national awards for its contribution to
the export business.

Recently, however, several allegations of illegal beach sand
mining have surfaced against the company. Despite no
substantial proof to support these allegations, the
company’s hard earned reputation seems to have taken a
hit. Vaikundarajan has stated that VV Minerals has
operated within legal boundaries and the allegation is a
ploy by competitors to defame the company.

Following these allegations, an investigation team was
set up by the then Chief Minister Jayalalitha to probe
in to the matter across five districts of the state.
IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi headed the special
investigation team.

Before his appointment, another IAS Officer Ashish
Kumar received marching orders during his investigation
stint. The rumors circled around connecting Vaikundarajan
behind this transfer and accused him of unjustly using his
political connections. Once again, these allegations were
supported by no evidence.

Another allegation doing the round was that the company
had illegally exported minerals worth INR 1Lakh crore.
These allegations come as a surprise to Vaikudarajan and
his loyalists as any evidence is yet to be presented in the
court of law.

“VV Minerals holds the legal document authorizing the
company to mine and export monazite. How is it then that
the sand mining operations of the company are deemed
illegal?” asks Vaikundarajan. As he continues to stand by his
company, Vaikundarajan puts his faith in the judiciary and
believes that the investigating team’s results will be in favour
of VV Minerals.
