While the transfer of native-language abilities to second-language skills
in bilinguals has been a focus of many studies, significantly less is
known about the inverse relationship between bilinguals’ second
language and their native language skills. Only a few studies have
examined the transfer of language skills from bilinguals’ L2 to their L1,
and these have been largely limited by their focus on literacy. Relying
on cognitive models of bilingualism that incorporate the notions of
interactivity between bilinguals’ two languages and on the cross-
linguistic transfer literature
