4. Forestland management units
Land Management unit Description
Forest district (region) • Regional forest surface with own
management for the purposes of
silvicultural operations and harvest
operations
Example
High Atlas
(Morroco)
5. Forestland management units
Land Management
unit
Surface and scale
Forest district (region) • Surface: > 104 ha
• Topographic Scale:
• < 1/100.000
Example
High Atlas
(Morroco)

Forest Toufliht
Land Management
unit
Description
Forest • A plant association, predominantly of trees or
other woody vegetation, defined by property
and/or topographic features such as uplands,
plateaus, valleys
• A Forest may contain 100 or more stands
8. Land
Management unit
Description
Stand • An aggregation of trees or other growth occupying
a specific area and sufficiently uniform in species
composition, size, age, arrangement, and
condition as to be distinguished from the forest or
other growth on adjoining areas.

10. Land Management
unit
Description
Stand • The composition, structure and ecological functions within a
stand are similar enough that a forest use prescription can be
applied uniformly within the stand

• Normally a stand will be studied or managed as a single unit.

areas that have similar conditions with respect to tree
size, species mix, structure and age.

20. • Improve forest health
• Protect against wildfires
• Provide and improve wildlife habitat
• Develop ponds or other water sources
• Learn about or study nature
• Establish new tree plantings
• Enhance tree growth and quality in your forest
• Hunting or fishing
• Generate income from harvesting timber
• Generate income from non-timber products
• Generate income from recreational access and use
• etc

• To promote and maintain desired landscape conditions
• To maintain and develop naturally reproducing forest communities
• To provide economic and social benefits through a sustained yield of
forest products
• To determine appropriate, sustainable timber harvest levels.
• To demonstrate and promote silvicultural practices that sustain ecological
and economic forest values
