2. Motivation
My premise is that, like me in my early career, you have not
had formal training in team operations methods, although
you have participated in team projects. And that you have
had positive and negative team experiences.
My intent is that, from today's talk and your experiences in
this class working as teams, some usable principles will
sink in and carry forward in your further educational and
professional endeavors.

With sundry natures we’re created
that, like electrons, push and pull
and constitute a human power
by which great deeds can be performed.
The trick’s to keep things insulated
so that the charges don’t unravel.

19. Commitment
In growing more, we realize
just how much trust we place in others,
and hope to feel no detriment.
In helping each to reach their goals,
and looking through each other’s eyes,
we see the same concerns appear.

Sometimes the strictures in our lives
seem ever tighter to confine.
We make them worse through mindless thrashing.

By gently working with the sea tides
we find we’re freed up over time.

21. Is One Life Enough
I have two homes in which I work.
Between them daily I commute.
One’s in the sky, the other earth.
Each time I change I leave a note.
It helps, when back, my pace ensure.
And keeps me focused on my purview.

22. Notes - Introductory Remarks
My training and experiences in team operations are summarized as follows.
● My profession was systems analyst at Exxon Chemical and while there I worked with
professional facilitators for my IT group and subsequently on quality teams across the business,
focusing on effective teamwork including corrective action and continuing quality improvement.
● Separately I worked with a strategic planning group of partners to facilitate meetings between
disparate elements of community, commercial, and educational organizations to make 10-year
strategic plans to improve K-12 education (pre-university ages 5-18).
● When I began a new career in Second Life I worked with and led teams for venue development,
venue operations and special event production over a period of several years.
● My premise is that, like me in my early career, you have not had formal training in team
operations methods, although you have participated in team projects. And that you have had
positive and negative team experiences.
● My intent is that, from today's talk and your experiences in this class working as teams, some
usable principles will sink in and carry forward in your further educational and professional
endeavors.
