NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK FOR
FOUNDATIONAL STAGE 2022
AGE 3-8
Children should be encouraged to “borrow” books from the library, take them home and
bring them back in time to return them to the library.
Periodically ‘borrow’ books from the library and place them in the classroom.
Where schools don’t have enough space for a separate library, reading corners can be
set up within classroom environments.
Borrow a story book from the class library, spend time with it at home, look at the
pictures, try to read the words and understand the story
The library should not just be seen as a storage space for books, rather as an active
environment for engagement with books.

place the books.

When libraries have very strict rules or
keep their books under lock and key
worrying about students using them,
it defeats the whole purpose of having a library.
