Basic Maintenance of Electrical Tools and Equipment.pptxVernaJoyEvangelio1
This document provides guidance on basic maintenance of electrical tools and equipment. It recommends cleaning dust from tools when not in use, checking cords for damage, using tools properly for their intended purpose, protecting tools from heat and sharp objects, using double-insulated tools, and storing tools in their cases. The document also discusses personal protective equipment and how to identify functional versus non-functional tools. PPE should be cared for and stored properly. Non-functional tools can be identified through visual inspection, functionality, performance, power supply, and input from technical personnel. Tools should be classified based on their intended uses.
Five to 10 arc flash explosions occur daily in the US, often requiring specialized burn treatment. There are two types of faults that can cause arcs: bolted faults where current flows through a solid connection, and arcing faults where current arcs through ionized air. Arcing faults are more dangerous as the energy is released into the environment. Standards like NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements aim to protect workers by enforcing safety practices like arc flash analyses and requiring personal protective equipment suitable for the estimated incident energy levels. Proper maintenance and use of protective equipment can reduce arc flash exposure hazards.
This document discusses electrical safety. It begins by defining electricity and electrical concepts like electrons, atoms, and conductors versus insulators. It then discusses factors that affect electrical resistance and provides analogies to explain concepts. The document emphasizes electrical safety, listing specific safety practices like using personal protective equipment (PPE) and signage. It provides details on PPE including types of hard hats, eye protection, footwear, gloves, and body protection. Hazards like falls and fires are addressed. The document concludes by discussing first aid basics.

All You Ever Wanted to Know About GFCIs & AFCIsJMCSteelGroup
Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) are designed to disconnect power to a branch circuit whenever the unit detects an imbalance of current between the energized conductor and the neutral conductor. Since the 1970s, GFCIs have saved thousands of lives and helped cut the number of home electrocutions in half. In recent years, the NEC has expanded the requirements for these devices to many other areas outside the home.
Introduced in the 1999 edition of the NEC, arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) provide enhanced protection against fire hazards in the home known as arc faults. An arc fault is a dangerous electrical problem caused by damaged, overheated, or stressed electrical wiring or devices. Without AFCIs, arc faults can create dangerous fire situations within the hidden spaces of dwelling units.
In this webinar, Mike Holt explains the current NEC requirements for GFCIs and AFCIs. He also explains how they operate, what causes their premature failure, and when they won't provide the safety protection you might have thought they would.

Cable lugs are Electrical Accessories used for securely connecting or terminating power cables to electrical apparatus, junction boxes, power or control panels, machineries or equipments.
Flare Electricals heavy duty single hole cable lugs are made from high quality electrolytic copper. The tubes are annealed to prevent them from cracking while crimping. They come in both bare and tinned finish. Cable lugs are electro tin plated to prevent it from atmospheric corrosion. An inspection window is provided to ensure that the cable is correctly inserted into the lug. Cable and stud hole sizes are marked on the palm of the lug for easy identification of the correct tool while crimping.
This document provides guidance on proper crimping practices and procedures. It defines crimping as a process where a cable is stripped and the wire strands are placed in a metal terminal, which is then squeezed to securely hold the wire and ensure good electrical contact. It explains that crimping is quick, cheap, durable, and reliable when done properly without needing extra material. It outlines topics like wire stripping, features of a good crimp, crimping details, pull testing, crimp measurement, crimped terminals, crimping tools, and identifying crimp and terminal faults.

Premium cable ties with steel locking barb
Characteristics
The single most distinguishing feature of the Ty-Rap
®
cable ties
from Thomas & Betts is the stainless steel locking barb, firmly
anchored inside the tie head (Fig. 1).
It is made from corrosion-proof, antimagnetic steel (Marine
Grade Type 316).
This guarantees a strong and durable locking of the tie even
under the most adverse conditions - humidity, heat, cold, etc.
and is also proof against vibration and external shock.
When applying ties with Thomas & Betts tooling, the excess
end of the tie is automatically cut off and the slight over cut
retracts into the tie, so that there is no risk of injury from
protruding sharp edges. (Fig. 3)
The low-profile design of the head allows secure tying in tight
spaces.
The edges of the head are also rounded off to offer maximum
protection from injury.
The transition from the strap to the head is gradual. This
protects the material against breaking at this most critical
point.
