Organization And Time Management For Students & Parents

 1. 1. Organization and Time Management for Students & Parents
Steve Magat
2. 2. It’s about managing stuff & time
Learning the basics of organization and time management will allow children to develop into adults who are prepared to tackle all of life's challenges.
3. 3. …and seeing what you have
Having visual reminders of what you expect will allow your children to be more in control while still accomplishing the tasks you require.
4. 4. Parents + children = Partners
You can’t tell a child to be organized.
They will interpret your words in their own way.
Make them responsible for their work
…but set an example
5. 5. What can I do first?
Buy your child a watch
Maintain a family calendar. Place your family calendar in a central location
Make a “Chore Chart”
Make a “Reading Log”
6. 6. …and then the miracle happens
Be specific --
Specific instructions will yield specific results.
Example:
“Homework begins every night
at 6:00 at the kitchen table
Not
“Do your homework”
7. 7. What can your kids do now?
Keep track of their own homework assignments.
Pack their own backpacks daily
Choose their own school clothes
Recognize when it is time to go to school.
8. 8. Be Flexible…but be consistent
Make “Guidelines” not “Laws”
9. 9. Last thought…YOUR HOMEWORK
Read to your child…or read with your child
Go to the library…pick out a book…sit and read together for 15 minutes.
