MODERN MASTERS DESIGNLUSH introduces Modern Masters, an exquisitely curated grouping of hand-crafted furnishings destined to be the heirlooms of tomorrow. A fresh new perspective on the modern art, and traditional craft, of furniture making. In each piece, the eye of the artist and hand of the craftsman are evident in every curve and corner. ADAM SIMHA : hand formed American steel and Macassar desk STEW DESIGN: seating group, rings of Poplar GWEN CARLTON: hand sculpted and gilded chandelier MICHAEL COFFEY: hand carved, solid Mozambique coffee table JACOB MARKS: solid Black Walnut chair LADISLAV CZERNEK: high gloss Waterfall Writing Desk
MICHAEL COFFEY for DESIGNLUSH Michael Coffey is a sculptor whose medium is furniture. He has designed and produced one-of-a-kind furniture and sculpture since 1967, and has exhibited in over 100 shows in galleries, museums and craft expositions. His work is currently featured in “Modern Americana – studio furniture from high craft high glam,” recently published by Rizzoli. Hand carved Mozambique. Clockwise from top: “Swahili” console, “Satan’s Tongue” coffee table, “Whale Back” chair, “Pas De Deux II” dining table.
STEW DESIGN WORKSHOP for DESIGNLUSH Stew’s work is driven by the organic ideal: “The rectilinear, orthogonal aesthetic that came to dominate the 20th century is a reflection of a machine-driven industrial age. Modern informational technology and the rapid spread of digital fabrication helped to free up design and designer’s creative processes. Locating ourselves within this movement and buoyed by technology, we celebrate a return to the beauty and harmony of natural forms, flows and systems. We strive to create a body of work that will inspire…committed to enhancing people’s lives and improving the world we live in.” Stew uses FSC-certified wood as well as alternative materials, such as wood from pressed sunflower seed husks. Their production methods are low-waste, with sawdust given to a local dairy farm to be used as bedding for cows. Rings of Plywood and Poplar. From left: “Strata” and “Petal” chairs
O’HARE & D’JAFER for DESIGNLUSH DESIGNLUSH is proud to offer the British design studio of O’Hare & D’Jafer their first representation in the U.S. “ Dedicated to luxury, beauty and innovation. The integrity of the raw materials and attention to detail is paramount. Creating a rich, eclectic mix of materials, historical reference, and traditional craftsmanship whilst embracing the latest technology.” Clockwise from left: “Japanese Flower” Mahogany marquetry panels and chiffonier, “Dauphin” leather chandelier, Mahogany veneer and resin screen, cut leather work pillow
ADAM SIMHA for DESIGNLUSH Adam Clockwise from top left: “Old Yeller” metal and woven chaise longue, “Slim Line” steel side tables, “7.12” steel lounge chair, executive desk and bench of Macassar and steel
WILLIAM EARLE for DESIGNLUSH William Earle’s flawless work is geometric perfection. “The standard view might be that American design is intuitive, pragmatic and vernacular, while European design is theoretical and conceptual. But then along comes a minimalist like William Earle.” Ellen Lupton, Curator, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Clockwise from top: Settle Sofa in dyed Italian mahogany with acrylic base, HAL side tables, Wooden Pillow
LADISLAV CZERNEK for DESIGNLUSH Ladislav Clockwise from left:
RUGS Hand knotted in wool and silk, the rugs featured in Modern Masters are truly works of art. Whether used on the floor or hung on the wall, these pieces are a wonderful fusion of traditional craftsmanship and the best contemporary design. Custom sizes and colors are encouraged. Fully custom graphics available. O’HARE & D’JAFER: “Peacock” GEBA: “Kiwi” GEBA: “Onda”
LIGHTING The New York Times has described Gwen Carlton’s lighting as “a synthesis of poetic ideas and excitingly used materials.” The same can easily be said of the entire Modern Masters lighting collection. From hand blown mercury glass to polished Brownlip oysters and Swarovski, our lighting designers’ handcrafted pieces are signature expressions of a Modern Organic vision. Clockwise from right: hand blown glass Mercury Pendants by Esque, hand sculpted and gilded sconce by Gwen Carlton, Swarovski crystal and polished oyster by Gwen Carlton, Leather chandelier by O’Hare & D’Jafer
