He blamed the media for making children ‘confused little adults’. He argues that today’s society makes children grow up too fast and they worry about adult issues like body image and sexuality. Emotional and behavioural norms: Margaret Mead argues that not all youth go through an emotional and confusing time. She says that the Samoan young people did not go through this.3063240-43815<br />Transition- a period of change form one stage to the next<br />Youth can be seen as a time that lets young people to leave behind childhood behaviour and ideas and become an adult. In some cultures the youth experiment with adult roles. E.g. in the UK this transition may include learning how to drive but in other cultures it may be different.<br />Rites of passage (or initiation rites) –these are the ceremonies and proceedings that are used to mark the transition of childhood to adulthood.<br />It makes sense that different societies have different norms and values. Therefore all of the rite of passage will be different so that it meets that society’s requirements for socialisation e.g. in a society where boys hunt, obviously a boy will learn to hunt.<br />,[object Object],Sociologists refer to the different groups that control you as the agents of social control. There are 2 types of social control: formal and informal.<br />,[object Object],The peer group as an agent of social control<br />Peer group- others of the same age, interests and social status. Many young people feel that the peer group is their main agent of social control. For example, the Goth or the Emo subculture.  Youth subcultures can link people with similar interests and create identity.<br />Paul Hodgkinson (2002) did a study on youth subcultures. He said that  youth subculture is formed on the basis of actual shared interests and not just a need to rebel.
