2. Warm-up Teacher reminds students how to sit and listen. Teacher says “I smell something funny with my ear.” Teacher discusses the five senses with students and lists them on chart paper. See Hear Smell Taste Feel
3. Presentation Teacher reads My Five Senses by Aliki and stops to review each of the five senses I see with my eyes. (pointing to eyes) I hear with my ears. (pointing to ears) I smell with my nose. (pointing to nose) I taste with my tongue. (pointing to tongue) I touch with my fingers. (showing fingers)
4. Presentation Teachers says “We are going to discuss things that we see, hear, smell, taste and feel in school.” Teacher calls on volunteers to give examples of things we see, hear, smell, taste, feel in school and lists them on chart paper Teacher will have students gather/show the items that are readily available
5. presentation Teacher breaks and plays “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” for students to dance and sing to. Teacher calms students back down and explains that they are going to write a story about school and the five senses. Teacher asks questions like “What should our title be?” Teacher goes through the five senses writing one sentence for each with the students.
