This presentation aims at bringing into light the commonly used rasa ausadhi in vata vyadhi. Description of each drug is given both text based and also clinical aspect of drug is discussed. Any difference in opinion regarding the drug is also well discussed.
5. Conflicts over the ratio of the ingredients
•Their are difference in opinion regarding the ration of the ingredients
used in this rasa. In original text swarna bhasma is mentioned as equal
in ratio to abhraka bhasma i.e. 1 karsha, while some authors has done
correction (pathantara) in regard and narrated that swarna bhasma is
to be taken half of abhraka bhasma and rest other drugs are to be
taken half of swarna bhasma. Most common method used in
preparation of this drug is mentioned in this presentation which is
accepted by most of the leading manufactures in India (Rasa sindhura
1 pala, abhraka bhasma 1 karsha, swarna bhasma half of abhraka
bhasma and rest other drugs half of swarna bhasma i.e. 3 masha.
•Here abhraka satva is mentioned in sloka but commonly abhraka
bhasma is taken.
•According to Yoga ratnakara rasa sindoora is used in place of mrita
parada if not available (Y.R. Abhava varga sloka no. 39-44)
6. VATAGAJANKUSHA RASA

Ingredients- (all drugs are taken in equal quantity)
1. Murchita parada (rasa sindoora/Red sulphide of mercury)
2. Lauha bhasma (Iron bhasma)
3. Tapya/makshik bhasma ( Bhasma of Copper and Iron Pyrite)
4. Purified gandhaka (Sulphur)
5. Purified hartala- (Orpiment)
6. Pathya/hareetaki (Terminalia chebula)
7. Shringi visha/ Karkatashringi (disputed drug, discussed later)
8. Visha/vatsnabha- (Aconitum ferox)
9. Trikatu
10. Agnimantha- (Premna integrifolia)

•Bhavna (trituration) with Gorakhmundi swarasa (Sphaeranthus
Indicus))and nirgundi swarasa (Vitex negundo).
•Dose- 2 gunja (250 mg)
•Anupana- Pippalimoola (Piper longum) and manjishta kwatha (Rubia
cordifolia) according to Bhaishjya ratnavali.
Yoga ratnakara has mentioned Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata),
guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), devdaru (Ceodrus deodara), sunthi
(Zingiber offinicale), and erand moola kwatha (Ricinus
communis)decoction along with guggulu (gum resin of Commiphora
mukul)
•Indications- various types of Vata vyadhi
-its said that it cures grudhasi (sciatica) within 7 days
-Kroshtuksheersha (inflammatory joint diseases)
-Manystamha (cervical spondylosis)
-Urustambha (painful, numb and immobile thighs)
-Pakshaghat (paralysis)
8. Conflicts and opinions
• Their are different opinion regarding the drug Shringi, some
commentators of Bhaishajya ratnvali has mentioned it is actually
shringi visha, while some have narrated it has karkatashringi i.e
Pistacia chinensis or P. integerrima (also mentioned by rasendra
sara sangraha), in some places shringi is compared to a desert viny
plant Citrullus colocynthis. Most of the leading manufacturers use
gall of Karkatashringi to assemble this rasa.
•Similar drug is mentioned in Yoga Ratnakara by name
Swachhand Bhairava Rasa with almost similar composition having
only one difference, here nirgundi is used in place of shringi, rest of
the ingredients are same. Difference in anupana is already
mentioned.
9. YOGENDRA RASA
Bhaishajya ratnavali Vata vyadhi rogadhikara 26/506-512
Ingredients-
1. Rasa sindoora- 2 tola (24 gm)
2. Swarna Bhasma (Gold Bhasma) - 12 grams
3. Lauha Bhasma (Iron Bhasma) - 12 grams
4. Abhraka Bhasma (Purified and processed Silica/mica) - 12 grams
5. Shuddha Mukta (Purified and processed Pearl) - 12 grams
6. Vanga bhasma (Bhasma of tin) - 12 grams
Bhavna (trituration)- this mixture is triturated with fresh juice of aloe
vera and then kept amidst of paddy for 3 days. Afterward tablets
of 2 ratti i.e. 250 mg are made and kept in an air tight container.

Dose-250 mg OD or 125 mg bid.
Anupana- it is taken along with decoction of Triphala, sugar candy,
vanslochana. Milk is to be taken especially in night by lean patients
while consuming this medicine.
Indications-
•It is Yogavahi in nature i.e. it acts as a catalyst.
•An excellent medicine for Vata Pitta disorder.
•Diabetes, polyuria, other urinary disorders.
•Epilepsy, psychotic disorders, emaciation.
•Paralysis
•Relieves abdominal pain, cures hyper acidity.
•Fistula in ano.
•Said to be an excellent medicine for vast range of diseases.
•It is an excellent medicine for patient suffering from both hypertension
and Diabetes mellitus
11. BHRITA VATACHINTAMANI RASA
Bhaishajya ratnavali Vata vyadhi rogadhikara 26/502-505
Ingredients-
1. Swarna bhasma (Gold bhasma)- 3 part
2. Rajata bhasma (Silver bhasma)- 2 part
3. Abhraka bhasma (Purified and processed Mica)- 2 part
4. Lauha bhasma (Iron bhasma)- 5 part
5. Pravala bhasma (Coral bhasma)- 3 part
6. Mauktik bhasma (Pearl bhasma)- 3 part
7. Suta bhasma/Rasa sindoora (Red sulphide of mercury)- 7 part
Bhavna (trituration)- fresh juice of aloe vera.

Anupana- ‘Yatha Vyadhya Anupanen Nashyet Roga Sankulam’
means by giving it with suitable anupana according to the disease it
cure majority of or group of vata rogas.
Indications-
•Very effective in Vata-pitta disorders.
•Have rejuvenating and anti-ageing properties.
•Practically it is used in most of the Vata disorders like Paralysis,
facial palsy, myopathy and neuropathy, degenerative diseases like
Parkinsonism.
13. vatavidhwansan RASA
Yoga Ratnakara Vata vyadhi Chikitsa 391-393
Ingredients-
1. Purified Parada (Mercury)- 1 part
2. Purified Gandhaka (Sulphur)-1 part
3. Naga bhasma (Lead bhasma)- 1 part
4. Vanga bhasma (Tin bhasma)- 1 part
5. Lauha bhasma (Iron bhasma)- 1 part
6. Tamra bhasma (Copper bhasma)- 1 part
7. Abhraka bhasma (Mica bhasma)- 1 part
8. Sunthi (Zingiber officinale)- 1 part
9. Maricha (Piper nigrum)- 1 part

First of all Parada and Gandhaka are mixed to form a homogenous
mixture called Kajjali (Black Sulphide of mercury). After that all other
churnas are mixed to kajjali and grinded for another 3 hours
homogenously. After this Purified Vatsnabha (Aconitum ferox) 4 and
half parts is added to above mixture and mixed homogenously.
Bhavna (Trituration)- following drugs are used for bhavna in
chronological order each 3 times
1. Trikatu kwatha (decoction)
2. Triphala kwatha
3. Chitraka kwatha (Plumbago zeylanica)
4. Bhringaraja kwatha (Eclipta alba)
5. Kutha kwatha (Saussurea lappa)
6. Nirgundi swarasa (Vitex nigundo)
7. Bhanu dugdha (Calotropis procera)
16. Different opinion-
Similar rasa is also mentioned by Rasendra Sara Sangraha (Vata
vyadhi chikitsa 59-65) and also by Bhaishajya ratnavali where actually
he has quoted it from rasendra sara sangraha only (B.R. Vata vyadhi
rog adhikara 537-544) having different combination and it is prepared
by Kupipakwa method. At end author says this rasa is mentioned by
acharya nandinath.
17. CONCLUSION
•These are the famous and most commonly used rasa ausadhies in
vata vyadhies in clinical practise. Apart form these many other rasa
drugs are mentioned in rasa texts for vata vyadhi.
