4. 1. Introduction
Unless you happen to live in the forest, it’s hard to quantify its
value in financial terms. For many people, the only value is
cutting and selling the timber, and they think that there is little
benefit for general population while other people think that
forest is considered as the important of biodiversity.
5. 2. General Functions
of the Forests
Shelter for variety of species for
around 80%
Lunge of the planet, recycling
the carbon dioxide and
producing oxygen
Help reduce green house gas
People can get benefits for their
daily lives
Sources of medicines,
chemicals and other scientific
discovery
6. 3. Roles of the forest
in water recycle or security
Regulate our water supply and
reduce siltation;
Help mitigate the effects of both
flooding and drought
Dense evergreen forests are
effective at feeding groundwater
supplies and hold large amount of
water
Feed the rivers, a vital part of our
natural eco-system, so it helps
provide water for drinking,
agriculture, transportation and so
on;
7. 4. Impacts of
forest extinction
of water security
Lost natural “SPONGE” of groundwater
Water runs fast and the ground cannot
absorb the water more while raining
Increase the threat of flood when having
heavy rain
Risk impacting groundwater levels
Severe impact of water security
8. 5. CONCLUSION5. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, if we don’t join hands to protect our forest,
we will face dramatic weather change, global warming,
flood, drought, losing of sources which is important for
scientific discovery. Moreover, if Cambodia’s forest
cannot be protected, water security cannot be guaranty
or secured for the very near future. REMEMBER! Those
forest will not growin a short period of time.
