Sophie analyzed feedback from viewers of an early draft of her film teaser trailer. The feedback noted that the beginning was effective but the end needed more editing since it contained a lot of walking clips [1]. Viewers also pointed out that no sound had been added yet [2]. To improve the trailer, Sophie added sound effects and music, adjusted clip speeds and colors, and did more editing of the end [3]. The revised trailer with these changes received positive feedback from test audiences.
2. Target Audience
To help with deciding our teaser trailers target audience, i looked at the website
Pearl and Dean. The website shows how and why a film has been rated a
certain rating. I thought it would be a good idea to look at films with similar
genres to ours. The film ‘Dark Reflection’ was one i looked at because it is very
similar to ours.
Dark Reflection was rated 15 years and over, which i personally think is a
perfect age limit and based purely on who would go and see it.
I also looked at websites such as IMDb to find more reviews and ratings of the
film which was handy to see what people had thought of the rating.
3. Our Target Audience
With all the research i
carried out i have come
to the decision of saying
that our main teaser
trailer should have a
certificate rating of 12
because we feel it
woulnt be suitable for
ages below 12.
4. Positive Feedback
We got feedback after we completed our first draft of our teaser trailer. This
helped us with ideas of how to change it and what bits they had found good.
We got feedback off 5 groups but overall they said;
positive- The start of it is very effective , which is because we had spent a lot of
time editing and making every shot perfect looking into detail. Our Company
idents were also told that they were very effective which me and holly created
and made them simple but effective and they got positive feedback.
5. Negative Feedback
The negative feedback that we had got from making our first draft was that we
hadn't worked on sound yet, so we had to make sure that was essential for
what we were to do next.
They also picked up on the end of the teaser trailer and say that we haven't
edited some of the clips which is what we were planning to work on anyway
and had lots of walking clips.
6. What we changed
We have learnt from our feedback that we need to add sound to our teaser
trailer to make it more effective. We also needed to to finish the editing and
focus more on the end few slides. We mostly changed the colours of shots by
putting a black and white effect on them and lowering its ‘amount’. We also had
to crop the shots and slow some down to make it look different and
interesting. The final main thing we did was add sound effects such as the
noise of the camera flash and we did this on final cut pro.
The music was mostly done by Penny with the ideas from us of us having the
music focus on strings which went well with our genre. We also added a fast
beat at the end to add suspense to the trailer.
