Nebulization therapy

In medicine, a nebuliser or nebulizer (see spelling differences) is a drug delivery device used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. Nebulizers are commonly used for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD and other respiratory diseases.

Nebulization therapy

  1. 1. Nebulization Therapy
  2. 2.  In medicine, a nebuliser or nebulizer (see spelling differences) is a drug delivery device used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. Nebulizers are commonly used for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD and other respiratory diseases.
  3. 3.  Nebulizer therapy is an effective and efficient way to deliver medications directly into the lungs by inhalation. Doctors prescribe a variety of different medications for conditions that warrant nebulizer therapy.  Patients with conditions such as asthma, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can all benefit from nebulizer therapy.
  4. 4. Function:  A nebulizer is a device that uses a small compressor to convert liquid medication into tiny droplets of mist that can be inhaled directly into the lungs.  Since the medication goes straight to the lungs, onset of the medication’s action often takes place rapidly.  This promotes quick symptom relief in the case of illnesses such as asthma, where fast relief is desirable, according to National Jewish Health.  Also, it minimizes the risk of side effects of the medication, preventing the medication from being metabolized into a less effective form by the body.
  5. 5. Using a Nebulizer  A nebulizer comes with a small compressor that sits on a table or desk and plugs into a wall socket.  It typically comes with a tubing kit, which contains a mouthpiece or mask, a cup that screws on to the mouthpiece or mask, and a long piece of tubing that connects to the compressor.  Using a nebulizer generally requires placing the medication into the nebulizer's cup, connecting the tubing, turning the compressor on, and breathing the medicated mist.
  6. 6.  It is the process of medication administration via inhalation. It utilizes a nebulizer which transports medications to the lungs by means of mist inhalation.  a nebulizer is a small device that can convert a drug from a solution into an aerosol form by means of a compressor/compressed gas source.  Nebulization creates a mist of drug particles that can be inhaled via a face mask or mouthpiece soothing THE inflamed airways  Bronchodilators are the most common nebulized drugs but many others can be nebulized, including steroids and antibiotics. •
  7. 7. PURPOSE  TO ADD MOISTURE TO OXYGEN DELIVERY SYSTEM  TO HYRDATE THICK SPUTUM AND PREVENT MUCUS PLUGGING  TO ADMINISTER VARIOUS DRUGS TO THE AIRWAYS
  8. 8. Indication of Nebulization  Nebulization therapy is used to deliver medications along the respiratory tract and is indicated to various respiratory problems and diseases such as:  Bronchospasms  Chest tightness  Excessive and thick mucus secretions  Respiratory congestions  Pneumonia  Atelectasis  Asthma
  9. 9.  Nebulizer and nebulizer connecting tubes  Compressor oxygen tank  Mouthpiece/mask  Respiratory medication to be administered  Normal saline solution  .
  10. 10.  Possible effects and reactions after nebulization therapy  Palpitations  Tremors  Tachycardia  Headache  Nausea  Bronchospasms (too much ventilation may result or exacerbate bronchospasms)
  11. 11. Why Spero? Spero Healthcare has evolved around the idea of coexisting with hospital and consultants for a patient who is ill enough to need additional health care, but stable enough to be discharged from the hospital. Understanding the current need and challenges faced by the patient, Spero healthcare have come up with systematic approach to address all the above challenges by developing technology solution, professional enhancement through training, integration of services through dedicated healthcare management and robust processes.
