Today media become a part of everyone’s life. Media plays a major
role in today’s society, Society is influenced by media in so many
ways. It is the media for the masses that helps them to get
information about a lot of things and also form opinions and make
a judgment regarding various issues. It is the media, which keep
people updated and informed about what is happening around
them and the world that everyone draws something from it.
4. The purpose of a media is to give information about current news, gossips,
Fashion, and the latest gadgets in the marketplace of the people.
Media is considered as “mirror” of the modern society, infact, it is the media
which shapes our lives.

5. • MEDIAIN20TH CENTURY[INDIANCONTEXT]
During the 20th century media was used as a tool of nation building. As
during that phase India was fighting for independence, media played a major
role, it was used as a revolutionary mission to inform peoples about their
fundamental rights.
Traditional media encompasses all the means of communication that
existed before the Internet and new media technology, including printed
materials (books, magazines, and newspapers), broadcast
communications (TV and radio), film, and music.
6. • Mediain21st Century
• The 21st century media, or New media, on the other hand, includes
electronic video games and entertainment, and the Internet and social
media.
• New media is any media – from newspaper articles and blogs to music and
podcasts – that are delivered digitally. From a website or email to mobile
phones and streaming apps, any internet-related form of communication
can be considered new media.
• The concept of Global village given by Marshall Mcluhan totally fits on the
media of 21st century.
7. • COMPARISON
• The media of 20th century or the older forms of media forced the
audiences to be passive consumers of the content provided to
them, in the sense that there was only so much that they could
do.
• The new forms of media allow the audiences to not only consume
content, but also produce content. Therefore we’re becoming
Prosumers: producers+consumers. Earlier the audiences could
only read or watch news. Today they can produce news through
blogs, social media or Citizen Journalism portals.
8. • CONCLUSION
• At the end we can conclude that how media has changed in past few
decades. When we talk about media in 2oth century then we were
dependent on newspapers and radio but after the commence of internet
there is a rapid growth of media industries and anyone can be a journalist
by creating blogs, websites etc….
