This document discusses various myths and misconceptions around leadership. It argues that leadership is not defined by aggressive or authoritative behaviors alone, and can be developed through learning and experience. Effective leaders demonstrate integrity, develop their teams, welcome change, foster partnerships, and positively influence others. While some are naturally inclined to leadership, anyone can become an effective leader by developing these skills.

3. Even in children, we think it becomes evident which ones will
assume leadership roles early on. They are typically the more
aggressive and extravert personality types that grab life’s
problems by the throat and seek solutions for everyone. You
might say that their personalities are predisposed to leadership
and this may be true enough in reality.
Other children tend to follow them like little lambs because they

Other children tend to follow them like little lambs because they
act decisively and with authority. These are traits that children
both need and are drawn to and so in their small world a
leader is born. From these observations, and from other similar
observations of animals in the wild, many of us assume that
aggressive and authoritative behaviors truly define leadership.

4. While “Aggressive and Authoritative” actions do have their
place in certain circumstances in which a lack of leadership or a
sudden unforeseen or catastrophic event has caused a team to
completely loose focus and self control, and the capacity for
such actions may be a desirable trait for a leader to possess, in
times of adversity…

6. Of my own 3 children who are now, all grown adults, my firstborn was a
“Born Leader” and displayed leadership traits from the age of 6. The
middle child was a “Classic Follower” and the youngest was a “Rebel”
born from some obscure form of Chaos Theory! Listened to nobody and
always sought his own way…
The revelation for me was that later in life they were all able to assume
successful Leadership Roles. The most successful “Leader” out of the

successful Leadership Roles. The most successful “Leader” out of the
bunch, to my surprise, was not the “Natural Born Leader” but the
“Rebel”… Although he did not display any leadership qualities early on,
he later found it was something he excelled at and enjoyed.
The “Natural Born Leader” as it turns out, was better at Sales &
Marketing and was not that good at leading teams at all because of her
very strong personality…
