Assignment: Microclimate Assessment
Imagine that you are commissioned to design a 5 storey
mixed use structure in Pasay (commercial-office-
residential). In order to come up with a preliminary
schematic design, you wanted to first determine the
nature of environmental (physical and climatic) forces that
may affect how your structure can eventually be designed
as sustainable.
Given the climatic background of the site, and
assuming that most neighboring structures are made
of glass and concrete, with minimal green strips along
Roxas Blvd., describe the micro-climatic conditions in
terms of critical to your design.
• highest possible temperature, and at what time of
the year
• highest possible rainfall, and at what time of the
year
• Sources of prevailing winds
• Humidity levels and possible influences
Give at least 2 green technologies that
can be integrated in your building design
which are likely to optimize the
opportunities presented by the site’s micro-
climatic conditions. Explain why such
technologies can be prudently used.
