Abstract
In order to keep the continuity and the competition of the educational
insinuation, an efficient educational system must be accessible, flexible,
good designed and cheaper for student use in response to the increasing
demand in our region.
The concept of quality in accordance with what has been agreed
upon in the UNESCO Conference on Education which was held in Paris
(1998) states that the quality of higher education should be a
multidimensional concept that includes all the functions and activities such
as education curricula, educational programs, scientific research, students,
buildings facilities and tools, the provision of services to the community,
self-learning procedure in comparison with the international quality
standards. The Quality is considered as one of the most important factor to
enhance the performance, in the current era, called by some thinkers that
the era of quality.
Quality is no longer an extra factor in the educational system (like
luxury aspiration) but it became an urgent necessity dictated by the
movement of contemporary life, a guide to the survival of the soul and the
spirit of survival to the educational institution.
While the area of e-learning is very vast, and it has made of the
importance that states are racing to make it a priority of educational and
developmental plans, as the definition of the concept and types of e-
learning is difficult to restrict them under a single heading, this is
influenced by the setting of quality standards in education, and increased
attention given to quality the challenges faced by the world, including the
weakness of the current outputs of the educational system for the skills of
the third millennium.
This article aims to study the quality standards in e-learning and
try to apply these standards on national e-learning experiences. We toke
the Syrian Virtual University (SVU) as case study in our research.
