paragraph (not more than 6 lines of text) that explains what
your paper will discuss. Much of your introduction may be
taken from the assignment instructions (in your own words).
Read all assignment resources to understand what should be

instructions in Blackboard, the grading rubric, and relevant
3. course announcements to understand the requirements. Do not
exceed 6 lines of text in this introduction. There should be no

replace this blue text with your introduction and change the font
color to black.Business-Level Strategies
Analyze the business-level strategies for the corporation you
chose to determine the business-level strategy you think is most
important to the long-term success of the firm. You will also
need to determine whether or not you judge this to be a good
choice (Note: in this step you need to choose and write about
only one business-level strategy from the text book (not
Google). Hint: See Figure 4.1 in the textbook. Include a
thorough justification for your choice that is backed by facts
and sound judgement. For background, be sure to research and
explain the industry in which your selected corporation
operates. You could also briefly (1 – 2 sentences) define the
business-level strategy (cite your sources) you are writing about
using the textbook/Learn, as an introduction to your analysis.
Read Chapter 4 in the course textbook. Review the Week 4
Learn Reading for supporting content. Your response here
should demonstrate that you understand the key concepts
regarding the selected business-level strategy and can apply
them to a real-world corporation. Keep in mind that this is a 6
page paper and as such your analysis should thoroughly address
the concepts discussed in the course. Avoid unsubstantiated
statements, extended introductory commentary, direct quotes,
and unrelated content. Strive for about 1 ½ to 2 pages of well -
constructed, in-depth analysis in this section.
In this section, you could research and identify the core
competencies your chosen firm uses to implement its business-
level strategies and discuss their effectiveness. You could also
demonstrate from your research how the firm uses its core
competencies to create and sell its products in the marketplace.
Consider the actions & choices your firm has made to compete
in individual product markets. Review Chapters 4-9 for
specifics on the business-level strategies. Your response should
4. clearly identify the one business-level strategy from the
textbook that you think is most important to the long-term
success of the corporation. Your response must also include a
clearly stated and justified judgement on whether that strategy
is a good choice. Include enough content and depth to

about only one corporate-level strategy from the text book (not
Google). Hint: See chapter 6 in the textbook. Include a thorough
justification for your choice that is backed by facts and sound
judgement. You could also briefly (1 – 2 sentences) define the
corporate-level strategy (cite your sources) you are writing
about using the textbook/Learn, as an introduction to your
analysis. Read Chapter 6 in the course textbook. Review the
Week 6 Learn Reading for supporting content. Your response

Rhetorical Analysis Outline
Thesis
1. Unity is not a foolish concept, however, filling the
American people's heads with false narratives is. This is exactly
what President Biden was doing during his inauguration speech.
Topic Sentence
1. President Biden made promises to ensure our children
were taught in safe schools.
A. Transition
i. Unless Joe is paying the national guard to make certain this
happens, this is not a feasible statement to be
made. Which brings me to my next empty promise he
made during his speech.
Topic Sentence
2. Biden at one point made note during his speech to deliver
racial justice.
A. Transition
i. Mr. Biden was the one quoted to be saying “Unless we do
something about this, my children are going to grow
up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle
with tensions having built so high that it is going to explode at
some point. We have got to make some move on
7. this,” so exactly how is he going to ensure racial
justice? Moreover, his vice-president, Kamala Harris, has kept
more African Americans jailed in
California on petty crimes than any other District Attorney.
Topic Sentence
3. Lastly, our newly elected president vowed to make sure
healthcare was secured for each and every American.
A. Transition
i. Government welfare are denying people coverage during a
global pandemic and every president prior has
been unsuccessful in securing healthcare for
Americans. Furthermore, it is disturbing to make these promises
to your American people when everything must
go through Congress and Senate before even being
approved.
Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Length: 4 pages minimum
Paper format & citation/documentation style: MLA
Audience: Diverse adult readers in an academic context.
Genre of essay: Rhetorical Analysis
Research: For this essay, you will be required to use THREE (3)
additional scholarly sources.
Topic: For this assignment, you will write an essay in which
you analyze the rhetorical modes utilized in a public speech of
8. your choosing (ie: presidential inaugural address, an op-ed, an
acceptance speech, etc.) It will be your job to utilize the
concepts we have covered in class (ethos, pathos, logos,
objectivity, subjectivity, tone, diction, etc.) to uncover the sub-
textual motives of the speech. Be creative and logical as you
offer a variety of exploratory discussions/analysis to help your
reader understand the rhetorical modes utilized in the text, their
intended effect, and their overall effectiveness.
Rhetorical Analysis examines how a text is deliberately
constructed or composed to create a persuasive argument
(considering elements like rhetorical appeals, strategies of
development, and presentation). Be sure to choose a text that
will lend itself well to such an analysis.
Write a persuasive analysis of the text with a strong thesis
statement, considering not only WHAT that text is arguing but
also HOW it is making that argument. Specifically, you need to
develop a persuasive claim as to how the primary text is
designed to make a particular argument in relation to its:
• Rhetorical situation and/or
• Context, and/or
• Use of rhetorical appeals (such as pathos, logos, ethos), and/or
• Use of one or more strategies of development such as
narration, definition, comparison/contrast, division-
classification, description, example.
The goal is not to talk about as many elements as possible but
instead to focus on those elements that you feel most contribute
to the creation of the text’s overall argument.
Remember that while you will need to delve into information,
examples, and evidence that helps to support your analysis of
rhetorical modes, you will need to keep the focus of the paper
related to the objective of the piece you are analyzing.
9. Remember to use the basic elements of writing that we have
covered so far to develop your essay (introduction, thesis, topic
sentences, transition sentences, examples, conclusion, etc.)
Things to Remember: The purpose of the assignment is to
demonstrate that you can effectively demonstrate the ability to
rhetorically analyze texts through writing. Therefore, your
essay should not stray from the scope of a rhetorical analysis
essay into other writing formats (analysis, compare and
contrast, etc).
Purpose/Objectives: This assignment will give you experience
with academic writing and rhetorical analysis. It will also help
prepare you to engage in more advanced forms of academic
writing.
Grading: Student papers will be graded using the rubric
provided on the syllabus for this course and will be graded on
their content, organization, development, expression, and
mechanics.
