Understanding Good Governance
• According to UNDP (United National development Planning),
“Good Governance is practical application of management
authority affairs. Administration of the state politically,
economically and administratively at all levels”.
• According to World Bank, “Good Governance is the manner in
which power is exercised in the management of a country’s
economic and social resources for development”.
• According to Asian Development Bank (AsDB), “Good Governance
is the manner in which power is exercised in the management of a
country’s economic and social resources for development”.
In practice good governance involves promoting the rule of law, tolerance
of minority and opposition groups, transparent political processes, an
independent judiciary, an impartial police force, a military that is strictly
subject to civilian control. A free press and vibrant civil society
institutions, as well as meaningful elections.
Above all, good governance means respect for human rights
Good governance will be an important determinant of the step and
character of economic development in the next decade.
Therefore, without good governance economic growth would be
stifled.
Understanding Good Governance
Good Governance Mission
Good governance ensures that political,
social and economic priorities are based
on broad consensus in society and that the
voices of the poorest and the most vulnerable are
heard in decision-making over the allocation of
