- Ensure that appliances remain in good condition. Replace or
repair appliances that overheat, spark, emit an unusual smell,
or which have loose or damaged cords or plugs.
- Avoid overloading outlets with multiple appliances and
electrical devices.
- Equip your home with ground fault circuit interrupters
(GFCIs) or arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs), which turn off
malfunctioning circuits to prevent electric shock.
